Someone save me alot of time searching through Kevin Eckert's archives.....

Didn't someone win 3 WoO features within 24 hours sometime during the early 80's? I think Syracuse and Rolling Meadows were two of the tracks involved.

Sleaze, I'm sure you know the correct answer.

Sammy won 2 WoO races in the same day at the New York State Fair Speedway and Rolling Wheels Raceway on October 12, 1991.

Kevin Gobrecht won 3 non-WoO races within 24 hours. I'm not sure of the year, but he won at Lincoln in the afternoon and Port Royal at night. The next afternoon, he won at Williams Grove

Impressive feats for sure.

Ok this is a USAC tib bit that I think is worth mentioning so don't slam me real hard (MSPN). Just three short years ago in 2004 JJ Yeley made some history by winning two (nearly three) USAC races in different states in the same day. At the Milwaukee Mile he won the midget race in a close finish over Dave Steele. He flew to Terre Haute afterwards and made a shambles of the field at the Ind. Sprint Week finale. And that third race being the Silver Crown event at Milwaukee, he was leading it when a radiator cap of all things broke and put him of the race.

I'd like to know where Mario Andretti pulled off his infamous three wins in one day back in the 60's. I want to say it was in Pa. but I'm not for sure.

On August 31, 1963 Mario won the ARDC main at Flemington (NJ), then won both a makeup feature and the regularly-scheduled feature at Hatfield (PA). It is more impressive when you consider that Flemington was a flat 5/8 mile square, and Hatfield was a very fast, banked 1/3 oval. They were both dirt, but of very different consistencies. Of course, in those days, they didn't do a lot to change the cars between tracks.

As further evidence that it was a real accomplishement, consider that ARDC inverted part of the field based on points, and that the two finishers behind him in the 3 features were: Len Duncan & Dutch Schaefer, Schaefer & Tony Bonadies, and Duncan & Red Riegel.

He was driving the Mataka Bros. Offy, which ever after wore the number "3n1".

I should add that, while I remembered the day, I got the details from Crocky Wright's books.

Dick.

Sammy's wins were my first ever W of O shows and then he followed that up a couple of days later winning at Lernerville.

Jack Hewitt also won a USAC show and a winged 360 show on the same card at Lake Odessa, MI back in the 90's as well. They were his first two wins after coming back from a bad crash at the Big E I think.

Two of my most favorite days ever in my short time with the sport. Take It Easy....

PS Don't forget Sammy winning the last two (to date) W of O shows at Bloomington Speedway on the same night, make that three of my most favorite memmories.....

I remember hearing about Jeff Swindell winning two features in the same night at Rolling Wheels in October of 94. The WoO ran at Syracuse ealier that day then made the tow to Elbridge. The first race was a made up rain date where they already had the feature line up ready then they ran another complete show. I think in the second race Jeff knocked brother Sammy out of the way to get the lead and the win. NSSN mentioned something about Sammy walking up to Jeff's rig after the race to make his presence known then just walked away. Talk about brotherly love!
