From Jayski:
More on Gibbs to Toyota...done deal? Extending Stewart to 2011? Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota are “a done deal” for 2008, according to several sources, though team executives said otherwise. Apparently one hangup in the talks between the long-time Chevy operation (which features #20-Tony Stewart) and Toyota is a clause in Gibbs’ current GM [Chevy] contract which bars the team from negotiating with any other manufacturer until the contract is up. So sources said Gibbs has had to go through an agent in the talks. Gibbs has a major negotiating session scheduled with General Motors in the next two weeks, which should provide the ‘yea,’ or ‘nay’ on that side of the issue. One of the big reasons for Toyota’s intense interest in Gibbs Racing is Gibbs’ engine program, headed by Mark Cronquist, one of the best in the business. Gibbs is also renegotiating his contract with Stewart to extend it another two years. The contract runs through the end of 2009; the new package would run through the end of 2011.
Don't do it Tony! I will always respect your driving abilities, but you'll lose this fan! I guess the days of product loyalty are out the window? :( Just the thought makes me SICK!
Don't do it to the team Joe!

...agreed !...being a union carpenter I will definitely reconsider my loyalty to not only Tony Stewart, but the Home Depot as well...but damn, I hate Jimmie Johnson !...lol
...Smitty let's hope this is just a bargaining chip for JGR with the Chevy folks...
...just the idea of "Toyota presents the USAC 4 Crown Nationals at Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway" makes me want to puke !

Folks, its just a damn nameplate. Toyota nosed its way into USAC midgets, and no one died because of it. Heck there was a Toyota pace vehicle at the "Chili Bowl" this year and no one got up an left because of it. Its not going to change the driver. Dave Blaney drives a Toyota,do you hate him? No one in NASCRAP is running around in kumonos because Toyota is involved. Its nothing more than a damn brand name. Tony Stewart is not going to start speaking Japanese if he starts driving a Toyota, and if he does, good. Its always a good thing to be cuturally diverse. LOL (formerly-RUSH66J)

Has anyone took a look at a Comsumer Reports magazine lately?
The two top cars to buy are Toyota and Honda.
The worst, american cars. i.e. Chevy, GM, ...
I've owned a few GM products, and, after my last one...it was my last one.

Toyota rocks the house, I hope gibbs goes with it.
GM makes things so they break that way they make more money fixing it. Toyota and Honda make far better cars.

I don't know about that. I have a Buick LeSabre with a 3800 engine 97 vintage with over 150K miles and never spent a dime on the engine and tranny or the a.c. other than oil changes and one tune up. My son has a 94 Accord and about the same mileage and he has spent over 800 bucks on timing belts (twice) and the air needs work @ $300.00 per visit every couple of years. Parts for his Honda are outrageous, ignition switch no labor was over a hundred bucks.

It won't be long & Tony will be trading his Vette for a Corolla! LOL You can point out which car you think is better all you want, but I'm a die-hard Chevy fan that just bought a '07 Silverado, which happens to be MotorTrends truck of the year. Everyone has pros & cons with any vehicle, but I will NOT support a Toyota driver period! Hell, I won't even cheer for Kasey Kahne in a Mopar...LOL...however that may be changing for '08 as well! I'm talking about loyalty to a company that got you where you are today...........not just doing it for the $$$. I could see it if he left the team for another, but why change a good thing? They're not better..............yet.
How many of you are going out to buy a Toyota classic convertible, with a big V-8 in it to toy around in on the weekends? You ricers are better off in a Wal-mart parking lot!
To each his own.............long live the bowtie!

i was a big dave blaney fan when he drove sprintcars but not anymore,if he was on fire i wouldnt even pee on him to help put the fire out.im a ford man all the way but i have rootted for ron hornaday in the trucks in the past 2 weeks then i have ever in my life total for any chevey and i dont even like the guy,but if thats what it takes to beat toyoto so be it,ford aint got nobody and i hate jimmy johnson and gordon both but i will if it comes between american car or jap.and if you buy a chevy or ford buit in mexico the money stays here in the usa.when you by them forign cars that money goes over there not here.and as far as any drive signing a contract with them they just as well sell there soul to the devil because they own you, they tell you what to do when to do it.i never have bought nothin but fords and i will push it with pride before i would even get in a jap car,let alone own one.

Now isn't many of the Toyotas, Mazdas, Hondas, and etc. assembled in the good old USA?
I think they have been and will be suppling many jobs for us and our kids for years to come.
There's an ex-GM plant about 30 miles from me making Toyota Corollas and have been for years.
So don't call me an idiot with your unsupported claims pal.

Last year I traded in a 1990 Toyota Camry that I bought new. 295,000 miles and the only expenses were a couple of batteries and a few sets of brake pads. It was still running strong when I traded it in and got $1500 for the trade!

It too have been a dyed in the wool Chevy fan........Until I bought a 2000 Silverado LS (I still have it). I'm on my 3rd 4L60E tranny. Complete JUNK, I called Chevrolet and traded many emails with them and their response was "sorry". I will never buy another Chevy, $3600 worth of trannys made a life long Chevy fan go to a rival when I bought a new car last year.
