Knoxville Raceway

410s, 360s, Masters Classic

32 410s

47 360s

22 Masters

410s

Randy Anderson (7th car out to time) set quick time for the third time this year at 15.282. Brent Antill (3rd car out) was second quick, followed by Wayne Johnson (17th), Dusty Zomer (21st), Davey Heskin (6th), Jon Corbin (8th), Jack Potter (1st), Travis Rilat (4th), Dennis Moore Jr. (20th) and Skip Jackson (11th). Bronson Maeschen dumped his mount in hot laps and failed to get a time in.

Heat one (started): 1. Brian Brown 21 (1) 2. Ricky Logan 10 (2) 3. Jackson 2 (3) 4. Ra. Anderson 81 (6) 5. Zomer 1z (5) 6. Potter 47 (4) / 7. Rager Phillips 9 (9) 8. Ryan Anderson 71R (7) 9. Greg Jones 3J (10) 10. Robert Bell 71 (11) 11. Jerry Richert Jr. 63 (8)

Brown led throughout the eight lapper, checking out on the rest. The invert six, take six format yielded little action. Richert and Bell checked out early.

Heat two (started): 1. Kenny Jacobs 5 (2) 2. Rilat 29 (4) 3. Billy Alley 55 (3) 4. Antill 1 (6) 5. Kaley Gharst 3 (9) 6. Jack Dover 53 (7) / 7. Heskin 56 (5) 8. Tyler Thompson 11 (1) 9. Bob Weuve 19 (8) 10. Mike Deavers 72 (10) DNS – Bronson Maeschen 96

Jacobs checked out in this one, grabbing a ride for a night that Dustin Lindquist vacated. Gharst moved under Thompson, Heskin and Dover to move into a transfer from row five. Dover moved by Thompson and Heskin to grab a transfer as well.

Heat three (started): 1. Clint Garner 40 (1) 2. Mark Dobmeier 13L (2) 3. Moore Jr. 17G (4) 4. Calvin Landis 70 (3) 5. Johnson 14AJ (6) 6. Mike Moore 69 (7) / 7. Corbin 15 (5) 8. Ian Madsen 1A (8) 9. Tony Shilling 47T (9) 10. Seth Brahmer 13 (10)

Garner led flag to flag. Corbin jumped over the cushion in turn one on the third lap, allowing M.Moore to gain the final transfer spot, a spot he wouldn't give up despite a late charge by Corbin.

B main (started): 1. Corbin (2) 2. Heskin (1) 3. Ry. Anderson (4) 4. Maeschen (13) 5. Richert (5) 6. Phillips (8) 7. Shilling (7) / 8. Deavers (9) 9. Jones (10) 10. Brahmer (12) 11. Bell (11) 12. Weuve (6) 13. Thompson (3) DNS – Madsen

Corbin dominated the non-stop 12-lapper ahead of fellow 410 rookie, Heskin. Maeschen moved forward steadily, rebounding from his practice flip to grab a feature transfer. Phillips grabbed the final transfer from Shilling on the last lap. Thompson went pitside on lap six.

A main (started): 1. Landis (1) 2. Zomer (7) 3. Alley (2) 4. Brown (14) 5. Corbin (19) 6. Rilat (5) 7. Dobmeier (13) 8. Antill (9) 9. Garner (15) 10. Johnson (8) 11. Maeschen (20) 12. M. Moore (17) 13. Ry. Anderson (21) 14. Shilling (24) 15. Phillips (22) 16. Jackson (3) 17. Moore Jr. (4) 18. Ra. Anderson (10) 19. Jacobs (12) 20. Potter (6) 21. Richert (23) 22. Logan (11) 23. Gharst (18) 24. Dover (16) DNS – Heskin

Plenty of bumps along the 20-lap way in this one. Dover checked right after seeing Gharst under him in turn one when the green flew, and he ended up flipping twice end over end after jumping the cushion. He was uninjured. Landis took the lead when the green fell, but only one lap was in the books when Gharst smacked the wall, came to a stop and exited. Landis led Jackson, Alley, Moore Jr. and Zomer back to green flag racing. One more lap got in before Logan got sideways in turn two and tipped over, ending his night. As the field paced back in single-file formation under yellow, Phillips jumped the right rear of Richert, ending Richert's night. Landis led Jackson for three laps until a lap six stoppage by Jacobs and Potter. Both went pitside. Now Landis led Jackson, Alley, Zomer and Moore Jr. Three more laps ticked off before Johnson found himself spun in turn one. In a five way battle to enter the top five on the restart, Brown got into Ra. Anderson in turn three, sending Anderson upside down. He was unhurt. The restart saw Landis leading a dueling Jackson and Alley, Zomer, Moore Jr. and Rilat. The last eleven laps went non-stop. Landis continued his advantage over Alley. Zomer found some rubber developing low in one and two, and gained on the leader, but ran out of fuel going into the last lap. He managed to find enough to coast across second. Jackson was running five on lap 15 when he pulled off up in smoke. Landis' win was his third at Knoxville. Corbin earned hard-charger honors passing 14 cars.

360s

Heat one (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Jeff Mitrisin 10 (1*) 2. Jake Peters 57x (3*) 3. Natalie Sather 94s (6*) 4. Roger Rager 55L (10*) 5. Mike Houseman Jr. Y2 (2) 6. John Schulz 2 (5) 7. Lee Grosz 4J (8) 8. Dan Thornburg 57T (9) 9. Dustin Selvage 7 (7) DNS – Larry Pinegar II 00 (4)

Mitrisin grabbed the early lead in the 7-lapper. A Thornburg spin on lap three set up a four lap dash for the finish. Mitrisin led on the restart, followed by J. Peters, Houseman Jr., Sather and Rager. Selvage dropped out on lap five. Rager used the low side to perfection, running by Houseman Jr. for fourth and a transfer.

Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Johnny Anderson 7a (3*) 2. Dave Hall 51 (1*) 3. Gregg Bakker 11x (2*) 4. Nate Mosher 22N (4) 5. Tyler Thompson 48 (6) 6. CJ Houseman Y5 (5) 7. Terry Alexander 77 (7) 8. Mark Toews 5T (9) 9. Glen Hunt G74 (10) DNS – Joe Kouba 55 (8)

Anderson circled the front row and led every lap of the mostly single-file event.

Heat three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Pete Crall 1 (5*) 2. Alan Zoutte 33 (2*) 3. Russ Hall 29 (4*) 4. Tim Gee 4 (8*) 5. Nate Van Haaften 3 (7) 6. Bryan Dobesh 2D (6) 7. Mark Pace 31 (9) 8. Jordan St. Arnold 7s (3) 9. Joe Beaver 53 (1)

Beaver led until he went up in smoke on lap six. Crall inherited the lead and looked good in going away, earning the high point total for the night. Dobesh started at the rear after visiting the work area before a lap was completed.

Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Tom Lenz 8L (3*) 2. John Hall 7H (5*) 3. Rick Ideus 5 (2*) 4. Mike Peters 51P (7*) 5. Chuck Swenson X (9) 6. Josh Schneiderman 49 (4) 7. Toby Chapman 84 (8) 8. Frankie Heimbaugh 04 (6) DNS – Tyler Houseman 50 (1)

Lenz led throughout. Heimbaugh came to a stop when his nose scoop dislodged on lap two. The restart saw Lenz leading J. Hall, Ideus, Schneiderman and M. Peters, who moved up nicely under green.

Heat five (started, *qualified for feature): 1. John Kearney 86 (1*) 2. Matt Moro 2m (2*) 3. Brett Mather 54 (3*) 4. Josh Higday 2x (5*) 5. Greg Rilat 35 (9*) 6. Tige Jensen 71 (7) 7. Brett Golik 5G (4) 8. Danny Heskin 65 (8) 9. Jesse Giannetto 86x (6)

Before a lap could be completed, Jensen had spun and Giannetto made contact with Golik, flattening his right front tire, sending him pitside. Kearney led flag to flag and won going away.

B main (started): 1. Dobesh (6) 2. Thompson (4) 3. Swenson (3) 4. Van Haaften (2) 5. Schulz (8) / 6. Mosher (1) 7. Houseman Jr. (5) 8. Schneiderman (11) 9. Golik (15) 10. Chapman (12) 11. Giannetto (21) 12. Toews (14) 13. Pace (10) 14. Grosz (13) 15. Heimbaugh (17) 16. Heskin (18) 17. Hunt (19) 18. St. Arnold (16) 19. CJ Houseman (9) 20. T. Houseman (20) 21. Jensen (7) DNS – Alexander, Thornburg, Pinegar, Kouba, Selvage, Beaver

Van Haaften led the 10-lapper early. Dobesh had moved up into second, before T. Houseman coasted to a stop on lap six. Van Haaften led Dobesh, Thompson, Mosher and Swenson back to green. On the restart, Dobesh slid under Van Haaften for a lead he wouldn't relinquish. Thompson and Swenson followed him by the leader before a lap seven flip by CJ Houseman. Van Haaften had to battle back by Schulz for fourth late. Jensen exited on lap two.

A main (started): 1. J. Peters (5) 2. D. Hall (2) 3. Kearney (6) 4. Mitrisin (8) 5. Anderson (9) 6. Rager (3) 7. J. Hall (4) 8. Mather (17) 9. Sather (12) 10. Ideus (16) 11. R. Hall (13) 12. Bakker (14) 13. Higday (20) 14. Gee (15) 15. Dobesh (21) 16. Moro (11) 17. Schulz (24) 18. Swenson (23) 19. Lenz (7) 20. Van Haaften (22) 21. Rilat (18) 22. Zoutte (1) 23. M. Peters (19) 24. Crall (10) DNS – Thompson

D. Hall shut the door on Rager to lead lap early. Four laps in, Crall found the frontstretch fence and flipped a couple times. He was uninjured. The restart saw D. Hall ahead of J. Peters, Rager, Mitrisin and Kearney. The final 11 laps went non-stop, with J. Peters grabbing the lead on the restart and holding on. M. Peters pulled in on lap eight. The best racing was for third, as Kearney and Mitrisin exchanged the spot a couple times in the last three laps. Anderson got by Rager late for fifth. Mather was the hard-charger, moving up nine spots. J. Peters win was his 9th at Knoxville.

Masters

Feature (started): 1. AJ Weaver 55W (14) 2. Jacobs 86 (1) 3. M. Peters 51 (5) 4. Gee (10) 5. G. Rilat (4) 6. Ron Rosenboom 30 (6) 7. Bobby Becker Jr. 8B (16) 8. Alexander (17) 9. Lonnie Jensen 71 (12) 10. Shane Carson 2x (11) 11. Midge Miller 8 (9) 12. Roy Jo Peltz 90 (3) 13. Bill Smith 33 (13) 14. Dale McCarty 9m (7) 15. Rager (15) 16. Bob Houseman 50 (19) 17. Don Stoutner 57 (18) 18. Joe Kouba 55 (2) 19. Chris Maurer 3 (8) DNS – David Brown 48, Randy Droescher 24, Tony Moro 2m

Jacobs jumped out to a huge lead in the 22-lapper before Miller and Maurer tangled on lap four, bringing caution. Jacobs led M. Peters, Kouba, Rosenboom and Rilat back to green flag racing. Weaver found the rubber laid in turns one and two before anyone else and began blowing by everyone from row seven forward. Despite Jacobs checking out on everyone, Weaver ran him down on lap eleven and used the rubber to blast by the high riding Jacobs on lap eleven. He pulled away, but on lap 17 got caught in lapped traffic himself. Jacobs pulled even on the low side and they made a sandwich of the lapped car of Peltz. Weaver managed to nose ahead on lap twenty, when Rager spun in turn one. The restart saw Weaver leading Jacobs, M. Peters, Rilat, Becker and Gee. Gee was the only one to progress after the restart, as he blasted by Becker and Rialt for fourth. The win was Weaver's first at Knoxville.

Almost another SoDak sweep. Congrats to the SD boys, looking like both are back on top of the points again.

Missing some 410's....Lynton Jeffrey, Toni Lutar, and Scott Winters has been MIA for several weeks after starting off great.

Will Forbrook continue to show up since Lindquist split?

Scott Winters hurt his only 410 during the IRA race at Kville and will return as soon as it is back in one piece, possibly this week.

Cant Winters get a 410 from his teammate??? Seems to me these 2 teams at R19 don't get along to well. that's my opinion.

Lutar went back west. Raced Memorial weekend in California and this week at Skagit. Was quick time Saturday. Maybe went back for the Dirt Cup which is 2 weeks away or just went home.

Talked to Lynton Friday night at K-ville and basically said he's trying to get all his ducks in a row before coming back out. Said his wing business is keeping him buried and by the time he thinks about getting his stuff ready he's out of energy.

Hey Bill, great report. Questions on the 360s. Do they still have the pill draw rules where you get penalized for not being a regular and what is the payout or where can I find it? Thanks.

You are allowed to take one week off and still draw when you come back...newbies still have to go to the back...

Thanks for the info.

That pill draw rule really bites.

I think Knoxville should revise there pay scale considering the level of competition that they get on a weekly basis. I'm having a hard time making it to the track each week because generally you have to buy a new r.r. tire and a left rear {witch cost more then r.r.} just to try to make the main. I didn't get into this sport to make money , I got into it to have fun but when you beat 75% of the competition and you just barley get the money to buy a tire that they make you run it's kind of taking the fun out of it. :(

If you wanted to have fun you needed to buy a mini-sprint!

So don't worry about making it more affordable to be competitive huh?

I can't disagree with $killz. The payout isn't very good for the car count they consistently get. We've been running some tracks that require the SC25 right rear and I have to say I can't complain about it at all. We've got 3 nights on one and it's still good. The payout at those tracks isn't much different either so we actually come out better.

I'd like to see all 360 races on the hard RR tire or better yet, the ASCS tire. That would level the field even more. It wouldn't bother me to see something a little harder on the LR either. A D15 maybe. 360 racing doesn't pay enough to need new tires every night to be competitive. We certainly can't afford that. Tracks and clubs can't do a lot to limit the big dollar motors but they could do something to give the rest of us a better chance. If 360 racing is supposed to be "limited" or "lower budget" then the new tire advantage needs to be drastically reduced.
