BLAIR WINS INDUSTRY AMA SPEEDWAY CYCLE MAIN -- By Tim Kennedy
Industry, CA., May 16 -- Buck Blair, of Huntington Beach, won his fourth AMA Speedway Cycle main event Wednesday at Industry Speedway to increase his Division 1 track point lead after seven races. A season-high '1,015 persons attended on Harley night at The Grand Arena in the Industry Hills Expo Center. Blair started from the pole and led all four laps to defeat Shaun Harmatiuk by ten yards. Charlie Venegas and Gary Hicks followed. Eloy Medellin, from Yorba Linda, won the Division 2 feature. Lance Remington captured the Division 3 main for six rookie riders. Both Ramirez brothers from Orange earned main event victories. Jason, 14, won the Youth Division 1 race with three riders under age 16 and Samuel, 7, won the pee-wee main for eight youngsters on 50-cc cycles. Braydan Galvin, a 9-year old from Corona, won the Youth Division 2 race for less-experienced riders.
Eighteen Harley-Davidson riders paraded their street-legal cycles around the dirt oval and ten Harleys later "raced" around the track. Jimmy Fishback, a D-1 speedway rider, arrived first at the finish line to repeat his 2006 Harley victory. Sixteen more weeks remain in the fifth season of speedway cycle racing at the roofed, opened-sided Grand Arena, which is situated on a hillside overlooking the scenic East San Gabriel Valley and San Gabirel Mountains to the north. Wednesday night racing commences at 7:00 p.m and concludes before 10:00 p.m. Speedway racing will switch to Saturday nights during July.
