As I sit here and stare at my computer screen, I thought of last Saturdays race at Perris. As I arrived early and stood at the fence in turn 4, all I could hear was Evelyn yelling (in her own little way) to get the cars onto the track for wheel-packing. The yellow light was turned on and guess what happened? Nothing for the next 20 to 30 minutes. Finally some cars appeared and without offending anyone, they were rookies and others that usually don't run toward the front of the pack. This causes the teams with generally the least amount of financial support to circle the track many extra times with the extra fuel and time on the engine. Eventually, all of the cars showed up and helped pack.

I realize that sometimes in the past that Evelyn has hustled cars up to pack and then the cars just sit in the push area and don't get on the track for a number of reasons. Because of this, it seems that most don't act on her requests now. She has said that she was told to get the cars up to wheelpack in the past and that is what she did. You sure can't say that she doesn't try.

Maybe Steve O. can consider using a method that Gary S. used to deal with this problem at Ascot. Set a time for all cars to be ON the track to wheelpack. If you are not ON the track by this time, you get 1 lap to Qualify. I'm sure that there will be some decisions that will have to be made in certain cases and as long as they are fair and consistent, that's all anyone can ask for. If something calls for a penalty, then do it.

After a few tough calls, the problem usually goes away. HAPPY THANKSGIVING...........

Well, When Ronnie ran the deal a few years ago, He gave us a time, by group, we had to be ON the track. I missed it once and got one lap at the end of qualifying. Things worked because you KNEW when you were supposed to be there. Now it's funny how they will let the wheel packing thing go, but only give a crew one lap to change a tire on a yellow.

Steve O. will make some friends because I believe he can actually READ the rule book. On the other side, there will be those that won't like Steve because he WILL follow the rules and enforce them as they are written. Good luck Steve O.

I can tell you one of the reasons that alot of the drivers take there time it is due to the fact that they do have to sit there for 15 to 20 minutes after they have been called to wheel pack . Last week we had to run the B main as soon as the Bmain was over Eveyln was on the horn yelling for the cars to get on the track for the Main . The guys that had to run the B main and transfered had little or no time to get there cars ready for the A main. We had two people working on our car with the help of the driver and we had a serious vibration problem we were trying to find it and all we kept hearing was that damn bull horn get your cars to the front strait or you will go to the back. Point is that after they get the driver's and cars where they want them they decide that they want to DICK AROUND for 15 or 20 minutes. There are alot of drivers that bitch about that every week.

Is this guy for real? Wheel packing is a problem when the show runs over on time. Not a problem last week, don't worry about it.

I wonder what the rush was for the transferring cars? I checked my watch and there was exactly 1 hour from the B-main checkers to the A-main green.

Like I said before they rush to get you up to the line for the race or the main and then they make you sit around untill they are ready. All I'm saying is why all the rush and then make you sit around when they are not ready .

The point I was trying to make, was to get the racers and the officials on the same page.

Your correct Dummy, doesn't matter what time they wheel-pack unless the show runs late, but at that point, who knows? My feeble comment was directed at the loud bullhorn and ways to prevent it. (Good luck) As more houses are almost across the street from the track, time and noise are 2 of our worst enemys. I would think from a promoters view, the more time between races equals more sales at the concession stands. Sounds like there needs to be a balance between a hurry up and wait attitude and an efficient use of time for the racers and the fans.

I heard that Steve O took the position with the understanding that he would be backed by USAC National in his decisions. That didn't happen with Bliss, but maybe they have seen the light! Also saw the schedule for Skagit and no sign of USAC/CRA in 2007. Vegas is a lot closer and cheaper if you stay out of the casinos (fat chance).
