Press Release

Santa Maria, CA - April 28, 2007...Eighty cars showed up for the season opener at Santa Maria Speedway
Saturday night and put on a spectacular display of short track racing.

*The 30-lap Century 21 Hometown Realty Bandit Sprint Car main event featured a duel between Jesse Mack, of Visalia, and Jimmy Thompson of Grover Beach. By the end of the run, all but six cars in the 22-car field had been lapped. Mack took the lead from Stockton's Jonathan Henry on the ninth circuit and held off Thompson, who passed him briefly on one lap, to take the victory. Taft's Jason May placed third behind the leading duo with Clark Templeman, of Canyon Country, fourth and defending Bandit champion Jeff Fiscus, of Nipomo, fifth. Eric Severson, of Torrance, set fast time of 13.949 seconds for the third mile oval. Henry, Dennis Rodriguez, Jr., of Camarillo, Richard VerWeerd, of Visalia, and Kevin Kierce, of Hollywood, won 8-lap heat races. May captured the 10-lap B main event.

*The 25-lap IMCA Modified feature event was controlled from the start by Ojai's Randy McGraw. Santa Maria's Tim Breshears was awarded second place when Steve McGee, of Carson City, NV, was penalized two positions, finishing fourth behind Santa Maria's David Addamo. Jacob Jones, of Santa Maria, was fifth. McGraw, McGee and Joey Claborn, of Santa Maria, captured 8-lap heat races.

*The 20-lap Fox 11 First at Ten Super Street main was a flag-to-flag run for defending champ Tim Randolph. Randolph was followed, at a distance, by fellow Santa Maria drivers Tom Breshears, Chad Shaffer, Joey Silva and Elton Shaffer. Randolph and Breshears took the 8-lap heat races.

*Kirk Morgan, of Santa Maria, started eighteenth in a 23-car field and took most of the 20-lap event to catch, and pass, for the win. Pinette ran into problems on the final three laps and dropped to 15th at the finish. Arroyo Grande's Kevin Linson, Terra Bella's Ray Pezzi, Nipomo's Dave Biddle and Tom Renner completed the top-five. Eight-lap heat race wins went to Pinette, Renner and Chuck Barfoot, of Pismo Beach, who lost a wheel in the main event and was sidelined for the duration.

*Next Saturday night Late Model Stocks, IMCA Modified, Factory Stocks and Mini Stocks will see action.
Admission prices are: Adults $14.00, Seniors (65+) $10.00, Children 6 to 12 $3.00, five and under free. Gates open at 3:00 p.m. with qualifying at 5:00 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m. The Speedway is located 1/4-mile north of the 101/166 interchange, on Hutton Road.
