Dittman Holds Off Gastineau Indoors at Pole Position Raceway

State Fair Speedway championship sprint car driver Frank Dittman held off fellow championship sprint and super sprint car driver Whit Gastineau to win the 16 lap feature Friday night indoors at Pole Position Raceway on NW 36th and May Ave.

The last minute race was organized by State Fair Speedway modified car owner J.D. Propps after it was announced that weekly racing action at the fairgrounds track was cancelled due to rain.

SFS factory stock driver Shawn Jorski and Dittman started on the front row for the sixteen lap kart event with Dittman getting to the pedal first when the green flag dropped for the standing start. Dittman out dueled Jorski into the first turn with third starting Gastineau falling into the third position.

The race became single-file for the first half of the race before part-time sprint car driver and the nights fast qualifier Buddy Johnson began making his move towards the front. While Dittman, Jorski and Gastineau began to pull away from the rest of the field, the battle for positions four through nine was began to heat up between factory stock driver Jeremy Allen, retired racer Perry Robb, modified drivers Curtis Allen and Jeff Decocq, sprint car driver Trey Robb and part-time modified driver Greg Moore.

Back up front at the races midway point, Gastineau got around a fading Jorski and set his sights on Dittman, who had opened up a ten kart length advantage. Also making a charge was Jeremy Allen, who had settled into the third position with six laps to go.

With five laps to go, Gastineau began to close on the leader Dittman and caught the champ sprint driver down the short, front chute with three laps to go. Gastineau tried to get around the leader entering the first corner but bobbled, allowing Dittman to open a four kart length lead.

From there it was smooth sailing for Dittman as he led the final three laps unchallenged to take the $100 first place prize put up by race organizer J.D. Propps and a first place trophy presented by Pole Position Raceway. Gastineau settled for second with a trophy and podium finish while Jeremy Allens strong run also results in a trophy and podium finish. Retired racer Trey Jorski, who had the quickest time of the feature with a 28.02 came home fourth with Perry Robb rounding out the top five.

Buddy Johnson was the nights hard charger as he started last in the twelve car feature and finished sixth. Johnson also contributed twenty dollars to the nights feature with all drivers starting the twelve car feature earning ten dollars.

The next indoor event at Pole Position Raceway will be if regular weekly races at State Fair Speedway are ever cancelled again due to incliment weather.

1) Frank Dittman 2) Whit Gastineau 3) Jeremy Allen 4) Trey Jorski 5) Perry Robb 6) Buddy Johnson 7) Greg Moore 8) Curtis Allen 9) Trey Robb 10) Shawn Jorski 11) Jeff Decocq 12) Cody Claxton

Pole Position news and notes

All four divisions from regular racing State Fair Speedway was represented with Stanley Reed, Jr. the lone pro stock representative.....Among the others from SFS not making the feature were sprint car driver Brian Bishop, sprint car owner Robert Bailey, factory stock drivers Dustin and Joey Buntin, Stanley Reed, Jr. and tidbits' founder David Smith, Jr. In total, twenty drivers and fans competed in the short-announced event......Everytime there is a rainout at State Fair Speedway on Friday night, there will be races held at Pole Position Raceway with ten lap qualifying time trials starting at 7:00 PM and being held up until 8:00 PM with races thereafter. The top ten drivers in qualifying times were locked into the nights feature finale with the top two from the "B" feature in qualifying times transfering. Times were inverted for the feature finale with the fast time of the night starting twelfth, etc.....If you are interested in either participating or attending as a race fan, please stay tuned to oklahomatidbits.com's message board on days when it looks like incliment weather forces SFS cancellation. Drivers and fans from all over the state are welcome and encouraged. If interested in adding money for drivers who make the feature as a bonus to the trophys they receive from Pole Position Raceway, please contact J.D. Propps and Shawn Jorski, both very instrumental in the orgainization of this event.....Plans are underway and being discussed for Saturday morning get togethers at the indoor Kart facility so please stay tuned to this website......A very special thanks go out to all the staff at Pole Position Raceway for giving the racers and fans who frequent SFS on Friday nights a place to race.

sounds like a ton of fun either racin or spectating. WOulda loved to have come.......especially considering we ate right by it at San Marcos and I'm staying with my girlfriend on 15th n May.........but I'm sick as a dog. So it's a recovery weekend for myself. Anyhoot........was lookin at ASCS results from Texarkana and noticed an altercation between former okc regular Andy Shouse and current WoO competitior Sam Hafertepe. Anyone care to elaborate? Whereas there wasn't the largest of counts it did look like it was highly competitive field down at 67 speedway.

Hmm....I might have to get into this. If I remember right, I was the victor in a heated three kart duel with your webmaster in Muskogee years ago. Just remember..."high entrance, low apex, high exit". (There's not a chance I'd be competitive amongst you drivers. But I bet I could beat Dave.) LOL.
