Anyone have color pics of the Larry Hill Super-Modified no. 11? I'm building a model of that car and need some info on it.

Model wise thinking here
Looks like a Grant King body (shortened tail), on a stretched Edmunds chassis. But, that may be a space frame- meaning the lower half of an '80s Monogram sprint car frame with an Edmunds style cage (stretched maybe). Front axle with buggy spring placed under the torsion bars. Might have to shorten the frame to get it just right. Hood is a 2-piece. That would make the hood fabrication a lot easier.
Paper clips would make great material for the bumpers and nerfs if they were the right thickness.
Those rear wheels could come from the AMT modified kits.

Thanks Warren. This is the car I was wanting to build. I'm working with an Edmunds chassis and I've stretched it out to scale 100". The hood and body panels have to be fabricated as well. Here are some pics of the work in progress:
Frame has been lengthened to scale 100"
White hood lengthened to fit longer wheelbase.

If we could get Rusty Manning to rescan this in a higher resolution I'm sure it would be a great looking photo. Not that is not, but I know Rusty purchased a new negative scanner at the time and sent the first view in a real low resolution.

One thing I see is the Grant King style "halo" cage you have on this model. For the record, this was a Stapp car built in 1972 and had a conventional style rear hoop in the cage. You do have the frame correct as it does run under the headers.

What was this cars status in 1976? Lee Osborne and George Snider ran it in 75 and Thad Doshier ran it in 77. All Silver Crown races.
If there is interest, I can provide a complete history of this car from new to present.
As far as vintage restorations go, this is the one I am "least proud of".

Was Larry Hill a partner with Bub Kearney before 77 or during 77? Kearney was from NE Kansas Topeka (Valley Falls) area. Son is Sprint car racer John Kearney.

The car was an AMT kit with a 53 ford pickup and a trailer for the car. It was a USAC sprint car driven by Pancho Carter and I think it was built by Steve Stapp. It won the USAC championship in 73/74. I do not know the the history of the car it is probaly very interesting. Mabee somebody on this sight knows what happened to the car. I built the Sammy Swindell drove from the 82/83 season and the cars really changed in this time period. What are the readers comments about the change in the cars?

I do not THINK Bub was involved in the Larry Hill / Thad Doshier / Stapp #24 Chanp car in 77.
Doshier put it on the pole at S'field on 8-20-77 and finished 22nd after a 2nd lap altercation with I believe Johny Parsons Jr.
Hill and Kearney did have a long term partnership starting in 78 when they built a new Nance Super with Dee Zelmer, Roy Bryant and Mike Peters driving. It was a red #10. Later Mike with David Grace wrenching had great sucess with the car. In 82 they converted this car to Silver Crown configuration, a black #86, with MP driving. It ended its racing life as a winged NCRA dirt champ car with MP, Ken Schrader, Shane Carson and TJ Giddings.

In March 1981 Mike Peters drove one of the best races that I ever saw. His primary car the Oches #1 broke in the heat race and he drove the #10 from the back of the B feature and won it then started from the back of the A feature and won it. A great drive.

John, I know the first Larry Hill car that D.E. drove was the Hill-Morey red and gold #11 car. It was built by Carrol Nance for Larry Hill and Otto Morey, for driver, Steve Foster.
Check out the mild, young, Rick Knight lettering. Rick also lettered the #11
