ASCS Southern Tour & Mid-Atlantic Region Square Off at Virginia Motor Speedway

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (April 23, 2007) – Florida's Kenny Adams will kick off his pursuit of the 2007 American Sprint Car Series Southern Tour championship this Saturday night as the Southern Tour faces off with the all-new ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region at Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, VA.

Saturday's card will give the ASCS Southern and Mid-Atlantic contenders a sneak preview of the semi-banked ½-mile Virginia Motor Speedway clay oval, which will host the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series with the $6,000-to-win East Coast Nationals on May 25 and 26.

Coby Adams of Mooresville, NC, enters Saturday's event as the defending ASCS Southern Tour champion after edging fellow North Carolina racer Johnny Bridges by just seven points for the crown in 2006. Lance Moss finished a close third in last year's points, with other top ASCS Southern Tour contenders including Brian Smith, Kris Brooks, Eddie Hamilton and Tim Perry.

Coby Adams' will have his hands full with a title defense, as Malabar, Florida's Kenny Adams has announced his intention to compete in the full ASCS Southern Tour slate of events. Kenny Adams has collected well over 100 feature wins over the course of his accomplished career.

Meanwhile, Pat Cannon of Etters, PA, leads the contingent of racers making the way southward for the ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region. Cannon topped the Mid-Atlantic Region's inaugural event on Sunday night, with Chad Layton, Dave Ely, Davie Franek, Jr., and Jimmy Stitzel chasing Cannon to the line.

Pit gates open at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, with spectator gates opening at 4:00 p.m. Hot lap action begins at 6:45 p.m., with racing action to follow.

The ASCS Southern Tour 2007 schedule consists of 17 events at a dozen different tracks throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.

The inaugural ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region slate currently consists of 16 nights of championship points events throughout Pennsylvania and the surrounding area along with six Local shows.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
