I prefer only the last 10 laps.

As a faithful dirt racer and not interested in the highway gang, I haven't been to a NASCAR race till last weekend. I was talked into going to the Phoenix Cup race as our local tracks were blacked out for the event. We had great seats and could see 90% of the track. Cant say I would pay to go see another. You can go see the WoO 4-5 times for the cost of 1 NASCAR race. I have to admit there were a few interesting moments. Jeff Gordon was boo'd longer and louder than Sammy ever was. Watching Denny dominate the race, get sent to the tail for speeding through the pits, then work his way back through the field to finish third was impressive. Smoke was great to watch. A couple time he magically made his car half its size to split two other cars and make impossible passes, and his duel with Gordon till the end were the few highlights of the day. After Gordon wins the same boo birds are now cheering their asses off. Must of been the $8 beers. Was interesting to see most fans were wearing about $1,000 worth of their driver's gear.

All of these posts are good reasons not to ever go again for me.  But these are also not all of the reasons.   Yes, true race fans, there are more reasons to skip these napcar races.

I don't watch Napcar on tv cause I find it boring. I usually have it on for back ground noise while I work around the house and try and catch the last 10 laps or so when there might actually be some racing.

YEP, sounds like we watch the same race. I'll bet there are a lot of us who do that.

I think it is a great part of my Sunday. I turn it on get nice and comfortable. Then go to sleep. I may open my eyes once or twice. It works better then any kind of sleeping pill on the market. And going to a race to stand for the whole race after paying way tooo much. Not my idea of fun. I would like to go see a race at Bristol or Darlington. I hear there is alot of banging and real racing. JMO

At least with the NAPCAR broadcasts you don't know who the winner is before you watch the race...

Im sick of the post race interviews with the 10gallon coke sip during a two minute interview, premeditated "on air" verbal attacks to fire up the crowd,(just maybe) the newness has just wore off on some of the drivers personalities , racing is dull , being at the event is even duller, "car of tommarrow" looks like a bus on crack? , "Boogity Boogity" ? I almost get up and rake the leaves, give me sprints give me dirt! I like it I love It I want some more of it !

The excitement with NASCAR was never about the race for me and many others. It was about the all-American invention called TAILGATING, something nobody does better than you folks.

Just think about Daytona in this vein. You pay about $200 for an infield pass (not a ticket) to spend 4 days from the twin 150's on Thursday to the 500 on Sunday and tens of thousands of people do so and they ALL have fun. It is an event which like many other sports doesn't translate near as well on TV but if you're there and part of the equation it's something you'll always remember. This sprint car shooter from a small town in Canada will never forget standing with my stuff in Victory Lane when Dale Sr. won his only 500, I had goose bumps.

For years I never got to watch on Sundays because I was always travellin' home from a race but the radio always made it seem like an exciting race and in most cases may have even been better than TV. If you gotta watch, then the first 20 and last 20 laps are always worth it it seems. I know that I have seen more close finishes in NASCAR then sprint car racing and I saw a heckuva lot more sprint races than Cup ones, go figure. Take It Easy.....

The only Nascar event that really gets my attention is the All Star Challenge, (or whatever they're calling it now). If you can pass the car(s) ahead, do it - now. None of this 'ride around for the first few hundred miles' stuff. No fuel mileage or tire wear issues, just get out there and stand on it! Reminds me of 'real' Saturday night racing.
