Tough luck spoils Brown’s bid at a sweep

By Gary Thomas

April 18, 2007...A spell of tough luck was the only thing that kept Grain Valley, MO’s Brian Brown from sweeping the ASCS Midwest VS Northern Plains Regional double at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska this past weekend.

Brian came into the weekend on the strength of three wins in the last four ASCS events held at I-80 Speedway and was looking to keep the momentum going at the two day Regional Showdown. Rainy weather forced race officials to push the two day event back to Saturday and Sunday from the previously scheduled Fri-Sat, and mother nature cooperated as the event was able to get completed in its entirety. The ASCS event in Nebraska was the first race for Brian since running at the State Fair Speedway Spring Nationals on March 26 and 27. As previously announced he took a weekend off to get laser eye surgery done at the Wolfe Eye Clinic, so he was eager to hit the track again.

A 53 car field greeted everyone at the I-80 Speedway on Saturday and Brian began the night by finishing second in his heat race. He then won the pole dash to earn a front row starting spot for the 20 lap feature. Brian jumped into the lead at the waving of the green flag and quickly put some distance between himself and the rest of the field. The Ditzfield Transfer, American Compressed Steel, Housby Trucks, K & N Filters Maxim was on a rail as Brian pulled out to a commanding lead and after 20 non-stop laps he brought home the win and in the process lapped up to sixth place.

Brian and the Doogs Racing team came back on Sunday looking to finish off a sweep of the weekend and early on it looked like it might happen as Brian picked up the win in the fourth heat race and was set to start the feature from the front row. Just like the previous night Brian blasted into the lead at the waving of the green flag. It was short lived however, as driveline failure forced Brian to pull out the race and put an unfortunate end to the weekend.

"We had a great car both night’s and if it weren’t for a little bad luck we probably would have had a sweep," Brian said. "The whole Doogs Racing team worked extremely hard and we were pleased with our performance and now we’re looking forward to Knoxville."

The Week Ahead:

The tough end to Sunday night’s feature will have to be put behind Brian and the team however, as we’ll be right back in action this weekend at the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. The evening of competition at the legendary dirt track will open the 2007 Knoxville Raceway Championship Cup Series. Last year Brian came oh so close to winning the 410 track championship and missed out on it by just five points in what was the closest point battle in the history of the track. Brian commented, "We’re excited for the Knoxville season to start and have had this date marked ever since last season ended. Our goal this season is to win the championship and we can’t wait for this weekend." Marketing Partner of the Week: American Compressed Steel

American Compressed Steel has been a long time supporter of Brian and has been with him ever since he began his racing career. They have been recycling metals for over 50 years. That alone says a lot when many people still think that recycling was a thing of the "conserve our resources" push of the 70s and 80s. At American Compressed Steel, they stand forconservationand environmental awareness, and the value of prolonging theusefulness of ourprecious raw materials. What previously was an inexhaustible supply is increasingly at risk with global demands and increased usage, especially today with the robust economic emergence of China, India and many other countries.
