Thanks for printing the truth, or at least the truth as you see it. I hope the reprecussions aren't nearly as severe this time around. Too many folks in the media worried about losing the free passes, at least Eckert tells 'em like he sees 'em.

Sounds like Kinser isn't too happy about having to pay for tires after all these years. Everyone is also saying the new spec tire is even BIGGER around than what they were already running. Sounds like another "wickerbill rule" at best. Though no one is complaining about paying $25 a tire less. Still seems like Emmett Hahn might be the only one that knows what he's doing based on ever growing ASCS membership numbers. I guess we'll see how the actual smaller tire pans out there.

that $25 a tire savings ain't crap when you used to be on a deal where you just pay cost, or have a deal that gives you 100 free tires a year. the average people out there don't know the deals that the traveling teams can work out with suppliers and manufacturers. take that away for a "deal" where everyone pays the same "lower" price can start to park some teams. the average racer or fan does not know just how much support some of the fine companies in sprint car racing help to keep the traveling teams going. it takes a ton of money to keep a team out on the road. and the traveling teams use a bunch of product up every week.they pay their fair share just in the volume of stuff they buy, but the help they get in cost savings over the average racer really helps. some people think the traveling teams or the top teams have it made. they get a brake 'cause they go in and buy more stuff for the first half of the season than most local teams buy in 5 years. ask your local racer to go and buy 5 complete cars, 2 or 3 motors, 20 sets of torsion bars and arms, 3 or 4 spare rear ends, 10 sets of wings 50 wheels, 50 shocks, cases of oils and cleaners, and not think they are going to get a break on it. WTF was i talking about...?  oh yah, it just pisses off when i hear that some rule has been passed that "saves" $25 or $30 on something that most of the teams already had killer deals worked out on. there has been talk on here lately about R&D. well when you buy as much stuff as a lot of these teams do the people who make the stuff get feedback like crazy. a lot of the companies are having the R&D paid buy the teams just by selling so much stuff, even at a discount. some teams get real special treatment from some manufacturers, but denny's, burger king, and arco and shell don't give much discounts to sprint car teams.lol.

I'm guessing much of Kinser's budget might not go into actual race parts. And he might even make a little money when all is said and done on the resale of what he gets for free. Kind of why I figured his main gripe publicly has always been the "cost of traveling up and down the road" while most other car owners seem equally concerned with engine and tire costs. He's the greatest sprint car driver that's ever been and deserves every spoil, but by the same token he still needs to be able to understand the situation the whole sport in general is in. Having to pay for tires sounds like it might have been a rude awakening. Probably were a heck of a lot cheaper when he was starting out.
