How long does it take to study for a cdl. Go get it! This is a chance of a life time. Good luck

THE writen test is not hard but the driving test is alittle more difficult. Also before you take the test make sure the team hauls less then 55 gallons of flamable (fuel) materials if they haul more you maybe required to carry a hazmat endorcement. That test is harder. I took the written test with hazmat 8 am on monday and took the driving test at 11:30 friday and by 1 pm I was on the road to florida. I studied the book the night before the written, drove for 3 days with the team rig and hit the raod. Now that was almost 10 years ago but I did have to retest on the hazmat every 4 years

Some drive tests are tougher than others, it just depends on the state you're in. I took mine in Oklahoma and it was easy. I took one in Missouri and it was tougher. The Hazmat is just a written test is is pretty easy. I studied and passed the test in 2 hours. The only trouble with it now is that you have to do a FBI background check (thanks Patriot Act) and pay $94 just for the Hazmat.

Here is a good site to study the tests... http://www.cristcdl.com/otc/

dude83, I think I should have some background knowledge with trucking and racing. Grew up working for my family that owned a trucking company, been driving trucks for 12 years now myself. Been involved with Sprintcar racing since I was 16 when I was introduced to my first sprint car by my high school mechanics teacher and have several family members (cousins and uncles) who have been driving before I ever got into it and spent 14 years working on one team, and spent 2 summers helping with track work during the week.

Ya know what pissed me off about doing the Hazmat. going through all that crap & no one @ the BMV even wanted too see the letter. I am fully endorsed on my CDL. About all I could do is tires, fuel, scrape mud & tighten bolts if I chose to go that route.

sprintcarfanatic, I have had my hazmat for 10 years now and in the few years since 9/11 I had to get finger printed for the FBI and Homeland Security crap and I have yet to be asked by the DOT, Highway Patrol, or ANYONE not even my employeer have asked to see if I had it. I spose now that I opened my mouth about it I will get stopped in the near future and they'll ask for it

Ohio should love me as I payed 3 times for my license, I did'nt want to bite off more than I could chew with the way I was working going to the school & having a life. Well doubles, triples & tanker was not all that bad I found out later. So then some other things happened & I waited until time to renew my license to do the hazmat. In a little over 6 months I payed $220.00 bucks. I'm going to use my vacation time @ the current place of employment & then I'm going to look into getting in with Fed Ex or something of that nature. I do not want to go over the road. The 1 bad thing is around here most want 2 yrs exp. @ least.
