ASCS Canyon Region Ready for Saturday Night Spectacular at Manzanita!

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (March 19, 2007) – After a wildly successful series debut at Manzanita Speedway just over a week ago, the new American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region is set for another stellar night of action at "The Track that Action Built" this Saturday night.

The top wingless Sprint Car drivers in the Valley of the Sun will square off atop Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval for a 50-lap feature event that offers up a $1,500 winner's share, with $300 just to start the main event.

With an extra $3,200 added to the standard series purse, the 50-lap spectacular will be run in two segments. After 25 laps, the race will be stopped and the leader will draw a pill to determine an inversion for the final 25-lap segment.

A $500 bonus is up for grabs to the driver that leads at the midway point and then can pull off the victory when the checkered flag falls at the conclusion of the 50-lapper.

The ASCS Canyon Region debuted at Manzanita Speedway with past Arizona State champion Jeremy Sherman besting a stout field of 29 entries. Sherman beat past Arizona kings Charles Davis, Jr., Josh Pelkey and Bob Ream, Jr., to the line in the opener.

Rookie pilot Jeremy Reagles of Mesa, AZ, capped a brilliant Sprint Car debut by racing from deep in the field to round out the top five and get the upper hand in the early stages of the Rookie of the Year chase.

Rounding out the current top ten in points are Ronnie Clark, Michael Colegrove, Mike Leslie, R.J. Johnson and Shon Deskins.

Once again, $50 certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, Parker Store sponsoring heat race two, Kenz & Leslie/BG Chemicals sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four. Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Pole Dash, while Sunoco will also award a $50 certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year.

Saturday's racing action goes green at 7:30 p.m.

Manzanita Speedway is located in Phoenix, AZ, off I-10 Exit 141, then four miles south on 35th Avenue to West Broadway. For more information, contact the track at 602-276-7575.

The ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in wingless Sprint Car racing to Arizona in 2007 with a slate of 24 events. In addition to Manzanita Speedway, the series will also be in action at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona Raceway over the course of the season.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
