From: Ventura Raceway

(Oxnard, CA 3/19/07) Ventura Raceway continues its 2007 racing season this coming Saturday night March 24, at 5:30pm with another night of exciting short track racing action at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility conveniently located just off the 101 Freeway in Ventura California.

After two great nights of racing so far in 2007, Ventura Raceway is back Saturday night with four adult classes and two kids classes of racing action for your entertainment. Featured tonight will be VRA Sprints, VRA Dwarf Cars, VRA Sport Compacts, IMCA Modifieds, Mini Dwarf Cars and Junior Midgets.

VRA Sprint Cars have had two exceptional nights of racing with side by side racing being the rule. Opening night's winner Kevin Kierce jumped out to a lead last week only to have eventual winner Cory Kruseman get by him to take the win. Kierce fell victim to bad luck as he moved through the field. He got together with another car and fell to ninth finishing position. 2006 VRA champion Luis Espinoza continued his defense of his championship by taking another second place finish. This finish places him in the 2007 points lead going into Saturday night's racing action. Other top finishes were scored by Dennis Rodriguez in third, John Nock getting his all time best finish in fourth and Wes Richardson getting his second straight fifth place finish for the season. All these VRA drivers and other top VRA drivers will be here Saturday to continue the 2007 series.

Also back Saturday are the popular VRA Dwarf Cars. Racing in two divisions, Seniors and Pros, these two classes put on some exciting racing in their small, high powered racers. Opening night saw division wins go to Jim Scribellito in Pros and Ed Niedzwiecki in Seniors. Saturday night's racing action will continue with the best in VRA Dwarf Car drivers returning to challenge the opening night victors.

IMCA Modifieds return Saturday after an opening night on March 10, that saw 19 cars in the pits. The racing action was exciting from the opening heats to the final lap of their Main Event. Opening night winner Steve Smith will be back to defend his win against the best IMCA has to offer. Randy McGraw, Brad Prows, Rick Rodarte, Bill Waltman Joe Weaver and many others will try to get their first 2007 IMCA win Saturday.

Our Final adult class for Saturday night will be the Sport Compact Class. This class that was called Pony Stocks in the past opened their season last week with a convincing win by Greg Raap in his front wheel drive, number 01 Integra. He held off Joel Chavez, in another Integra, to take the first win of the new season in this class. The winning streak for front wheel drive cars also continued last week. 2006 series champion Jack Hoyt was the highest finishing rear wheel drive car, finishing fourth in the number 11 owned by Andrew Greiman.

The final groups racing Saturday night will be our three kids divisions. Mini Dwarfs and Junior Midgets opened two weeks ago on March 10, with wins going to Christian Copley in Junior Midgets, Ricky Lewis in the Mini Dwarf 5-8 Division and Chase Lippert in the 9-11 Division. These growing classes are an indication that the future of racing is strong in Ventura. It will be fun to watch as the drivers in these three divisions continue to improve and eventually move up to other classes in the future.

Pit Gates open at 12 noon with front gates opening at 3:00 with Junior Class racing at 3:30 and adult racing getting under way at 5:30pm. Admission prices are: $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for Senior/Military and Juniors with a school id, $5.00 for children 7-12 with kids 6 and under free. For more information, please call Ventura Raceway at (805) 985-5433 Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Just a quick correction to the above post I sent to Lance for this week. Luis Espinoza is actually in second place in points and Cory Kruseman is in first. It was my error that came in the release that put Luis in first. Sorry for any confusion. Luis has two second place finishes so far in 2007. Cory has a first and third putting him a few points ahead of Luis so far this season.
