What were the radios for?

They are one-way radios that allows the scorers to line people up on yellows. If I still had a car I would be bitching about having to spend the money. He could have told everyone over the winter and let them plan for it. But from a fan perspective, it should speed the show up on yellows and reds.

I would think he will rent a radio to out of town racers that are not running weekly but really not sure about that , it is suppose to help speed up the show and easier to re-line back up on yellows and tell you when you been black flagged and so on , but I can see the scanner/radio play will not be as entertaining during yellows.

It should speed up the show if used correctly. After seeing ASCS use them last year when they were here, TMS in March and USMTS this past Friday night, as a fan it should be great. I applaud the idea.

I fully understand the drivers point of view that they will be mandatory in just three weeks. Another added expense from a drivers point of view.

Lanny stated that for the out of town drivers and those not frequenting SFS on a regular basis that they would rent them out too them.

Hey feel sorry for the guy he's "only making a dollar a piece off of them." I like the idea as long as he isn't on the radio, that will just piss people off. He is supposed to rent the radios to out of towners. I'm sure it will be for a hefty price though. I ran one in the ASCS Sooner race last year, and it was pretty cool. They are good for lineups and making everyone aware of yellows and reds. Also, if your car is smoking or something is going wrong they can tell you. However, the price tag does suck. If I have to spend money I would rather spend it on transponders so I don't get put to the back for random reasons.

Do get a refund @ the end of the year or is it just yours, when you get them.

I was told that the radio at TMS was sold for 80 dollars. But Lanny is only making a buck off of them. Why does he have a big ole scoreboard?

I think the man truly has gone senile. As with David Smith, I applaud the idea......BUT........why 5 DAYS BEFORE THE START OF THE SEASON?

Same with the head rule for sprints...........the rule was BS enough.......but why right before the start of the season? Lanny has managed the last few years without the transponders..........why not say hey I shoulda said this back in October 06 but I didn't and I'm not the kind of jackass to say it 1 week before the start of the season?

Before anyone answers that question we all know it was probably the Chili Bowl. But if its too much to juggle it all maybe he should get himself some better help. However I imagine when you're a control freak with an attitude good help is hard to find...................

After running a few ASCS shows last year, I thought it was awesome and it really does speed things up. The only problem at SFS is as someone else mentioned if Lanny is going to have the access to be on the radio, then it's definitely a bad idea. It is a big time saver in lineups for restarts and getting people with flat tires off the track (other than left fronts). ASCS let us rent them $20./show and that applied to the purchase which was about the same as what Lanny's asking. Maybe he'll do the same thing (I know yeh, right). That would be too complicated.

It is BS that he didn't mention before and putting a time requirement. This will definitely get interesting.

Better keep an extra pack of batteries with you at all times. And every official needs to know how the things work, cause there will be alot of problems at first. If your not used to wearing earplugs while driving its going to be a weird feeling for a while...invest in some duct tape.

We ran one at the Wichita Bandit TNT race and had problems with it bout half the night. Battery was going dead, frequency wasnt right, loud blaring static constantly, forgetting to hook it up if your in a hurry.... The list goes on.

The race radios that I've seen for sale are in the 450-470 mhz band with different channels in that band; I don't know if the SFS radios will be different.
