(CAMARGO, IL) 3-13-07 Established in 1983, the
original and longest running sprint Speedweek in the United States will
celebrate it’s Silver Anniversary this season as twenty-five years of
winged sprint car tradition has led up to what will be one of the
biggest sprint car racing events of the 2007 season. The Speedweek
point fund has been increased from $10,000 to $15,000 thanks to the
generosity of the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) and their High
Performance Motorsports program. The O’Reilly All Star Circuit of
Champions, along with the Speedweek track promoters and sponsors, are
committed to making this year’s Ohio Sprint Speedweek one that fans
will remember and talk about for years to come.
On top of the increased point fund, a $50,000
“Speedweek Challenge” cash bonus will be paid to any driver able to win
4 of the 7 Ohio Sprint Speedweek events. Drivers must be pre-registered
by May 15th and compete in every Speedweek event to be eligible for the
bonus money and the points fund. Winning 4 events will be no easy task
considering the average car count in 2006 was 46 with the highest
coming at Limaland where 60 cars signed in to compete. 2006 Ohio Sprint
Speedweek stand-out Ricky Stenhouse Jr. still managed to visit victory
lane 3 times in a week shortened by two rain outs, proving that the
bonus money is not out of anyone’s reach.
Ohio Sprint Speedweek kicks off on Sunday June
24th at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio. From there, the series
will head to Orville, Ohio’s Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway
on Monday June 25th. On Tuesday June 26th a new Speedweek venue will
take part in the Silver Anniversary celebration as Waynesfield Motor
Sports Park hosts its first ever 410 winged sprint car race. The newly
renovated facility is located in Waynesfield, Ohio. From there, it’s on
to a track rich in Ohio history that was closed for several decades and
was finally brought back to life in 2006. Hilltop Speedway in
Millersburg, Ohio will host the Speedweek celebration on Wednesday June
27. On Thursday June 28th it’s back to the track that action built –
Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio. Then on Friday June 29th the
Speedweek celebration rolls into Lima, Ohio’s Limaland Motorsports Park
which is owned and operated by the University of Northwestern Ohio. The
excitement will reach it’s boiling point at the track too tough to tame
– the one and only Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Saturday June
30th where the 2007 Ohio Sprint Speedweek Champion will be crowned.
