Gurney To Compete In California’s Mini Gold Cup
By Matt Pendleton INDIANAPOLIS, March 9, 2007 – While many USAC teams take time off during a lull in the national schedule, Team Gurney Racing’s Chuck Gurney Jr. will be heading to his home state of California, March 9 and 10 to race in the Mini Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway.
“I'm really looking forward to getting back on the track at Silver Dollar Speedway this weekend,” said Gurney. “I grew up racing Sprint cars in Northern California and this should be another good chance to get some laps in. It’ll also be nice to head to some warmer weather than the chilly March we’re having in Indiana.”
Chuck’s sprint car will be in an Eagle chassis with a Wesmar power plant owned by Brian Sperry.
“Brian and I have run well in the past together at Silver Dollar,” said Chuck, “and I'm really looking forward to teaming with him again.”
Several drivers from across the country are expected to attend the 22nd annual event in Chico. Friday night, fans can see qualifying, heats, a dash, and feature events. Saturday’s schedule will also feature qualifying, heats, and a dash, with the weekend culminating with the 40 lap Mini Gold Cup event that will send the winner home with $6,000.
Gates open up at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets will be $20 Friday and $25 Saturday. Children’s tickets will be $7 each night. All seating will be general admission. Log onto http://www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com for more information.
