2nd Annual Knoxville Raceway Bowling Challenge slated for April 7

By Kathy Bell

The 2nd Annual Knoxville Raceway Bowling Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairlane Bowl in Knoxville. Proceeds from the fundraising event will go to the KRCO, Knoxville Raceway Charitable Organization. In their own words, the racers involved in this year's event said this is their opportunity to give back to an organization that has done a lot for them. The KRCO not only carries insurance on all full-time, Knoxville Raceway weekly racers at any race track they compete at, they have also provided the drivers with many gifts to aid in their racing safety over the years. Past items given to racers include, fireproof underwear, fire-retardant driver suits, safety belts, helmets and this year's gift of Butler Built seats which are known as one of the safest seats in the business. Participating drivers in this year's event include, last year's winner, 360 driver Johnny Anderson, minus his championship team, Brett Mather, Jeff Mitrisin, Tyler Houseman and David Hall and their teams. The 360 drivers and teams will compete against 410 drivers, Calvin Landis, Skip Jackson, Chris Walraven, Bronson Maeschen, Tony Shilling and their teams. Anderson's team will be selected for him by event organizers which will keep the competition fair. The rest of the drivers will select their own team members from their crew, family, friends and fans. The fundraising event is for fun, however, the drivers say even off the race track they are still very competitive and they want to win. "This is still a competition," Anderson said. "Bowling is a lot different from racing. It's one sport most racers aren't good at but we still want to win. I hope people will come out and join us." "This is one of the few opportunities we have to hang out with our crews, the other drivers and the fans before the season gets started," he continued. "Race fans will have an opportunity to hang out and talk with us and get to know us outside the race track where we're more laid back. I think everyone had a great time last year. I know I did." Along with the Bowling Challenge is a silent auction of racing memorabilia with autographed driver t-shirts, car parts, bowling pins and other miscellaneous racing items. Coordinating this event are Louie and Susie Plude, Brad and Pam Palmer and Kelly Anderson. Everyone is invited to stop by the Fairlane Bowl on April 7 to watch their favorite 410 and 360 racers compete off the race track at the 2nd Annual Knoxville Raceway Bowling Challenge. Admission is free but don't forget some money so you can take home some racing items from the silent auction. Best of all, the money raised goes to the KRCO which helps them buy more safety items for the Knoxville weekly racers.
