Brandon Wimmer – Teaming with the "Ohio Traveler"
(Bill W) March 7, 2009 – Fairmount, Indiana's Brandon Wimmer will be teaming up with legendary Ohio driver and car owner Rick Ferkel for a run at the All Star Circuit of Champions in 2009. Brandon will drive the #0 car with the All Stars, but he will still run some shows including the Knoxville Nationals with good friend, Alan Barton in his #7TW.
Brandon was searching for something he could drive on a regular basis, and called the right guy. "Rick had an opening develop in his car one or two weeks back," he says. "I actually was just calling him to see if he knew of anyone I could get a hold of to run for. He said that his plans had fallen through and he needed someone, so here we are."
The schedule will include the All Stars, but also some local action in Ohio. "We'll be running the All Star schedule, and some weekly stuff in Ohio too," says Brandon. "We'll start on April 3 with the regular show at Attica (Raceway Park), and go from there."
Brandon and Alan Barton are more than just owner and driver. They attempted to put together a package that included racing at Knoxville Raceway (IA) on a weekly basis, but the economics didn't add up. "Alan and I just couldn't put the sponsorship together to run every week," Brandon shares. "We're like family, so we're not done running together…we just couldn't swing a weekly deal. We would have been running a limited schedule anyway. We'll run a handful of races together including the Knoxville Nationals and the King's Royal together, and Rick will be helping us wrench the car at those races."
Brandon is happy to be paired with the "Ohio Traveler" again! "We ran Ohio Speedweek together in 2006, and a bit at the end of last year," he says. "It seems we gravitate back to each other eventually! I'm excited about it."
Ferkel is equally excited about pairing with Wimmer. "The deal I previously had fell through, and Brandon was right at the top of my list," he says. "He's a good kid, he's great to work with, and I'm looking forward to running with him. We'll run 100% of the All Star shows, and we're trying to find out if Brandon's eligible for Rookie of the Year. It looks like he should be."
Brandon and Rick Ferkel would like to thank the following sponsors for all their help: Shorty's Truck Repair, Smith's Farm, Goodyear Tires, Griff's Engines, Kear's Speed Shop, Huggins Cams, BRODIX Heads, Barnes Oil Pumps, Prism Lubricants, Zis Land Development, Butlerbuilt, Simpson, and WRT Web Designs.
