Farr Too Strong
Posted Monday, 2 March 2009 by Krikke Boys Media

Once again Robbie Farr has proven he had what it takes to be the best at Bunbury. After a good showing in his first heat on Saturday night, starting from 6th and finishing in 4th, the signs were ominous he was going to turn his up and down season around.

His effort in the dash was only to start him out of position 12 in the preliminary A Main event. If the alarm bells weren’t ringing then they should have been after as he was one of the major movers in the field as he finished in 6th for the night. This placed him in a perfect position for the final assault.

His second heat on the final night was nothing short of outstanding as he led the field for the whole race to set himself up with a pole position for the A Dash. Getting away early, he took full advantage of it and won comfortably.

Come the A Main, he was poised to make it six wins from twelve outings at the Shootout. A fairly clean race with minimal stoppages was the order of the night. He lead at every start and just couldn’t be headed.

A couple of celebratory donuts and the usual “wing dance” on top of his car saw him jubilant in victory.

This has made it two in a row. He will return next season for another tilt and try to become the first driver ever to make it three in a row for the Shootout.

Farr Out - Robbie Farr after his sixth Krikke Boys Shootout success

A Shootout To Remember
BCM Motorsports Marketing posted Monday March 2, 2009.
It was an incredible two massive nights of racing at the annual Krikke Boys Shootout over the weekend at the Bunbury City Speedway.

The first night saw a torrid track claim many victims. Although most were a little shaken they returned on the second night for another chance at glory.

Forty two drivers were set to battle it out, the largest number of cars ever to compete. A bumper crowd on both nights would be spellbound by the awesome display of racing over the weekend.

With the scene set for a fantastic finale, the victor would have to wait until the last few remaining laps to seal the title. It could have been anyone’s race though.

It was clear on night one when Ryan Farrell and Jamie Maiolo had mishaps on turn two there were going to be fireworks the following night. Both drivers had to qualify through the B Main which they did.

The best was yet to come though as the A Main saw one of the best displays of sprintcar driving by Maiolo and in particular Farrell. Both drivers, starting at the rear of the pack were the only cars to move through the field with ease. Maiolo who started in nineteenth position finished a credible tenth while Farrel put on a show coming from eighteenth to finish in fifth, probably his best effort of the season.

The final result went to Robbie Farr who has now made it two in a row and six wins from twelve starts at the Shootout. Second went to US driver Paul McMahon who has now finished in this position on three occasions while this was taken by Northern Territorian ace Danny “The Rockstar” Reidy. The first WA driver across the line in fourth was young gun Kris Coyle who had an outstanding weekend.

Kendrick Motorsport - And The Team Went Away Happy.
BCM Motorsports Marketing posted Tuesday March 3, 2009.
Team Kendrick 92.9 Racing may not have got the desired results at the recent running of the Krikke Boys Shootout, but still walked away happy.

After some impressive performances by both team drivers in recent weeks, team owner Geoff Kendrick deserved to be confident heading in to the weekend. “Yea we were feeling pretty good. But the format cost us, I don’t like it and I don’t think many people do because it doesn’t reward anyone who moves forward and it has too many points on qualifying.

It’s the same for everyone so its not an excuse but last night we had our car all screwed up (the #92 of Tim Schaffer) so tonight we were coming from way back in the pack, so it made it difficult.”

And even though the results didn’t reflect the effort the team put in over the weekend, they walked away happy. “In the feature Tim went forward and I was real happy with that, and Jason (Kendrick driver of the #11) was doing a great job in the C-main to the B-Main and having a crack around the top but then unfortunately knocked a front axle out of the car.

That’s what happens when young blokes have a crack. All in all I’m reasonably happy with the results, Tim made it in to the top ten and Jason’s having a good go each time on the track.” Geoff said following the meeting.

Both drivers were happy too, but believe things could have been better if they hadn’t struggled with the qualifying format that is in place for the Shootout. Tim Schaffer had this to say following the final. “I really struggled here. Me and this track wasn’t getting along till tonight and Geoff has been working hard to get it good for me.

I finally got going there tonight, but we were so far behind with the points deal. But we turned it around tonight and got a decent finish, a car in one piece and we learnt a lot. Maybe next year we will be back.”

Jason too talked about the struggle after a poor time trial effort. “This weekend we screwed up with time trials, and there is such a big emphasis on time trials so that really hurt us. That put us at the back of all the heats and it’s a lot harder coming from the back. But I gave it my best during the C & B but it finished in the wall. I wasn’t gonna die trying that’s for sure.”

So after an impressive run passing 8 cars in the A-Main for Schaffer, and a red hot go moving forward effort in the B-Main by Kendrick, the 92.9/Melville Suzuki backed team will head to Kalgoorlie for the Red Dirt Rumble this Wednesday night knowing that both cars are in with a chance.
