Kyle Larson To Contend for Golden State Challenge Series Championship

Elk Grove, CA – Kyle Larson, and his car owner’s Dave and Debbie Vertullo, will embark on a new “challenge” for 2009 as the successful team will step their racing up a level to the Golden State Challenge Series.

The plan for the team is to contest the full Golden State schedule, along with major 410 races that include the Gold Cup at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway in September, and a first assault on the Dirt Cup at Alger, Washington’s Skagit Speedway in June. As part of the Golden State tour Larson will make first time appearances at Oregon’s Medford and Cottage Grove Speedways, while also making initial stops at the California race tracks of Antioch and Santa Maria.

Larson, runner-up to Sean Becker in the 2008 California 360 Civil War title chase, will see a dramatic drop in races in that division. However, in 2009, Larson and team will look to repeat the 360 performances that garnered top fives in 2008 at Chico’s Fall Nationals and Tulare’s Trophy Cup, both scheduled in October.

“I’m very excited about the upcoming season,” said the 16 year old resident of Elk Grove, California. “Dave and Debbie Vertullo have acquired another 410 engine so that we can attempt to run the full Golden State tour. Like me, they are looking to race with the best cars and drivers on the west coast and I appreciate their faith in me to get the job done.”

Larson knows the task won’t be easy as he will be battling the likes of Brent and Tim Kaeding, Tyler Walker, Jason Statler, and defending Golden State champion Jonathan Allard on a nightly basis. “I know this is going to be tough, but I am really looking forward to it. The only way to get better as a driver is to race against the best competition you can and I know that is what the Golden State series will offer.”

The 2009 season will see primary sponsorship from Starr Property Management, Inc. While Larson’s long time sponsor, Global ParkerStore, has been forced to end their support due to the current economic situation, Steve Stroud, owner of Phoenix ParkerStores and Lubrication Equipment and Supply in Phoenix, Arizona, has stepped into the void to provide a welcomed boost to the team. Also coming on board for the first time are Ed Noceti, owner of G & N Construction, and Simpson Performance Products. Continuing sponsors include Wion’s Body Shop and Powdercoating, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, JW Web Design, Wyman Construction, Edward’s Lawn Service, Sierra Tire and Wheel, GME-Nields Steerings, LRB Manufacturing, Safety Solutions and Mophead Graphix.

Larson and Vertullo Racing are well aware of the significant undertaking ahead and are actively searching for additional sponsors needed to go head to head with the resources of the teams of the Golden State Challenge Series. I am glad to hear that he is moving up the GSC series! He is a great racer and will only get better by racing with the best around! I wish him the best and I know he can do well racing every weekend at different tracks in CA, OR and WA. I wish other drivers would be able to move up to the GSC, but I know how expensive it is to run every weekend at different tracks and plus the competition is pretty tough. I am really looking forward to the season opener at Placerville and really hoping that darn "r" word goes away soon :(

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

Good luck this season Kyle good to see you moving up and racing with GSC. Have your dad give me a call Sandy and I are planning on making a trip from Okc this season to come watch you race. Go fast and be safe. Darin Robison
