Here is a blast from the past... A photo I took of Ken Schrader in the Hamilton #55 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in 1982.

Sweet pic of a great driver! Doubt it will get much attention here though as people are more interested in what 15 had for breakfast and what color his pajamas are. Keep em' coming....

Remember talking with Ken at Ascot when he was driving this car at Turkey Night, back straight away pit stall putting his tear offs on. Then they towed the car to PIR to run on the pavement. Was dicing with Stan Fox, Mel Kenyon and Mike Nish. Nish climbed a wheel going into turn three and flipped over the fence, and up Rattle Snake Hill. Always liked that car, reminds of the Hurtibise 56.

Was this chassis built by Bob Higman of Lafayette, Indiana? He used Ross steering boxes and that pitman arm looks like a Ross style.

Yep, that car was owned by L. Gene Hamilton and wrenched by Bob Higman. (Probably the "9" car of that era.) As far as Nick and kenny winning the Championship, maybe the car owner title, but Schrader never won the driver title in 1982, Kevin Olson did......

Somebody needs to get to Higman and get his story up there. You have no idea of the wealth of history he has in his still sharp mind. His days are short, but his memory is long. I looked him up on a whim, next thing I know he's telling me things about Indy in the 60's _from the inside_,USAC and the list goes on. Those stories we all love that teach us about ourselves and what is really happening around us. Yet these stories never get into print.
