5th Annual Race for a Reason – Tony Hunt Celebrity Karting event anticipation buildsBy Bobby Gerould – Fair Oaks, CA. February 9, 2007 - …The hype is building for the annual Race for a Reason Tony Hunt Celebrity Karting Event at RPM Indoor Kart Racing in Sacramento, CA. The February 18th day of go-karting benefits the local Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Joining Hunt, the reigning USAC Western Sprint Car driving champion, and World of Outlaws star Jason Meyers, will be a plethora of racing stars. Confirmed to participate in the festivities are Memo Gidley, Jessica Helberg, Michael Faccinto, Tanner Foust, and Shannon Mansch.

Gidley comes to Sacramento to participate again in the event after having finished seventh in the recent 24 Hours of Daytona. Helberg added a feather in her cap when she was named as finalist in NASCAR's 2007 Drive for Diversity program. Faccinto is coming off of a `07 campaign that netted him a Ford Focus Midget National Championship. The 16 year-old from Hanford, CA. will try the Kart Challenge for the first time.

Tanner Foust is known for his prowess in rally racing. He is also among the world's finest in the genre known as 'drifting'. Foust was a lead stunt driver in the popular Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift movie. Foust will be joined by Mansch who is a champion in the WestCar Late Model stock car series.

The day at "RPM" will double as a celebration of the Daytona 500 with television screens set up for viewing the Great American Race. As in the past, 32 teams with four drivers each will battle for trophies and bragging rights on the RPM tracks while fans entertain themselves with one eye on the karting action and the other eye on the TV.

Karting participants will race as a team on two different courses as well as competing in a pit-stop challenge. In addition to the Sunday races, country singer and male vocalist, Kevin Sharp will be appearing in the RPM skybox on Saturday, February 17th for a private dinner and performance at 7:00 PM. As an award winning country music vocalist, entertainer, cancer survivor and now one of the country's top speakers, Kevin is a national spokesman for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

The competition is secondary to the primary goal of raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. 100% of net proceeds will be donated directly to the local chapter of Make-A-Wish. Last year the event raised more than $14,000.

Doors for the Sunday event will open at 9:00 am with a drivers meeting scheduled for 12:00 PM. Racing will immediately follow. Space is limited but those who would like to rub elbows, and race wheel to wheel with star racers from the Western region may do so for the cost of $150.

Don't miss your opportunity. Register at either RPM in Sacramento, or at Hunt's Race World in Fair Oaks, CA. If you would like to register online – please visit www.TonyHunt.com or www.EnjoyTheRace.com
