The first annual Doug Murphrey Memorial

May 5th, 2007 (practice, May 4th)

Fast Trax Speedway, Chatham, LA

Taking the place of the ArkLaMiss Modified Shootout this year at Fast Trax is a race that we plan on making the first of many annual events at the north Louisiana speedway. Some of you know we lost Doug Murphrey, Sr. from Tullos, Louisiana last year. Mr. Doug was a fixture whereever his son Dougie Murphrey #25 raced the family-owned Modified and served as his son's crew chief. It's been a hard loss for all his family, especially Dougie.

Dougie, his family, friends, sponsors and the owners of Fast Trax Speedway, Billy and Sandra Bagwell, have come up with a great way to remember Mr. Doug and one we all know he would be proud of.

A 25-lap, $2500 to Win, $250 to start Open Wheel Modified race.

More details will be announced soon but for now, circle May 5th on your calenders and keep it freed up! You're not going to want to miss this one. Big thanks to Joe and Michelle Chapman at Monticello Speedway for giving the Modifieds off that night and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at FTS on May 5th.

Since the original post went out, we've decided that the track website has the better date.  For one, we've found out that the USMTS Southern Series Modifieds will be at Batesville Speedway on May 11th & 12th.  The SUPR Mods were already scheduled for Baton Rouge on the 11th and South Mississippi on the 12th.  While there isn't a lot of overlap between the UMP/SUPR cars and the G60/KK704 crowd, there is some and there are a few drivers who would like to do both the SUPR Mod Series and the Doug Murphrey Memorial.  Likewise with the USMTS Southern Series.

So now circle May 5th please.  Also, there will probably be an entry fee of $75 for this race.  We're hoping we can lower that as sponsorship comes in or add a B main purse but I think if we could do a no entry fee race, then we wouldn't have to pay a B main purse to attract cars.  We'll let you know but for planning purposes, no more than $75 entry fee for now.

Also, in keeping with the 25 theme, the A main will start 25 cars.  Passing points in the heat, lock in 13, top eight redraw (like a USMTS show) and bring in 12 from the B mains.
