$70,000+ Cowtown's November Sprint Shootout 11/7-8 & Track Reconfiguration Update

10/27/08, DarinShort.com. With the successful Cowtown Sprint Nationals now in the books, Cowtown Speedway is in preparation for the upcoming 2nd annual November Sprint Shootout (NSS) to be held on November 7-8, 2008.

Want more action? The inaugural NSS in 2007 left fans screaming "we want more!" So it's been decided. You're going to get what you asked for:

More racing and more money is on the line for the NSS. Twin 25's for the sprint cars have been added to the Friday night program. More cars will start the Saturday NSS Championship. And the popular ASCS passing points system will go into effect on Friday night, which will determine Saturday night's line-ups.

Similar to the Cowtown Sprint Nationals, big money is on the line for the sprint cars. The Friday night Twin 25's will each pay $1,000 to win. All sprint car drivers will qualify for one of the Twin 25's and all are guaranteed payback on Friday night.

And in the event that the sprint car field is too large for Twin 25's; a third, $1,000 to win feature race will be added, making it Triple 25's! (The 3rd feature will be added if there are over 45 sprint teams ready to make the feature race call on Friday night.)

Saturday's last chance races will fill the balance of the field for the 35-lap November Sprint Shootout, with the winner picking up a cool $5,000; with 2nd paying $4000, 3rd $3000, 4th $2000, and down to $400 to start. And the starting field has been expanded to 22 cars. All non-qualifiers Saturday night will receive at least $100.

10 more feet of racing action will greet teams and fans. The Rawdon family has been making improvements and renovations to the facility since they took it over five years ago. And with the recent success of the Cowtown Sprint Nationals, it has allowed the next phase of the long-term overhaul to begin. Many loads of new dirt have been brought in and the track is now a minimum of 10 feet wider all the way around. This will allow for even more side-by-side racing, which Cowtown is known for.

More NSS invaders? Last year's NSS saw several regional and national 'invaders' converging upon Cowtown Speedway. With no major winged sprint race scheduled in the region, it's possible that several traveling teams will take to the ¼ mile high banks of Cowtown. Driver pre-entry on the track website is requested by Nov. 5, but it is not required. There is no 'penalty' for late entry to this event.

Three great divisions join the NSS action. Joining the sprint cars will be the exciting Cowtown Modifieds, popular Winged 600's and the local's favorite, Limited Modifieds. Their format will be heats and qualifiers on Friday, and non-qualifier races and feature races on Saturday. The Modifieds will pay $2,000 to win, Winged 600's $1,500 to win and Limited Modifieds $1,000 to win. Rules and complete payback are posted at the track website. Saturday will also feature the 2nd annual EJ Towing's Street Stock Extravaganza.

Save $10 more by purchasing advance 2-day tickets. Fans can save $10 by purchasing their tickets online at www.CowtownSpeedway.com in advance (through November 5th), as 2-day adult grandstand pass will cost just $35. Or, tickets will be available at the gate on race night for $20 on Friday and $25 on Saturday. Youth and child tickets will remain at just $5 and $2 on each night.

Please visit www.CowtownSpeedway.com to view the complete NSS event flyer, driver pre-registration, online ticket sales and for more information. You won't want to miss this season-ending event, as last year's event kept fans buzzing all winter long. Follow this link http://www.darinshort.com/NSS.html for a recap, pictures and video clips of the 2007 NSS.

Travel & weather tips for the NSS. There are two fly-in options: DFW International (services all major gateways) and Dallas Love Field (includes Southwest airlines and generally more 'regional' flights). For flight options, www.Travelocity.com is a great source of information. Their 'Last Minute Packages' offers excellent low-priced options that include flights, hotels and car rentals. www.Priceline.com is also good for finding last-minute deals on flights and hotels.

The long-range forecast currently shows the same trend as presently, which are highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's. There are also low precipitation chances currently being shown. For the latest in Cowtown weather, there is a link on the home page of the track website.

Want more action? Get it at the November Sprint Shootout! This is the season-ending event at Cowtown, and we look forward to building this event each and every year, to give race teams and fans what they want most: more!

Entries are already rolling in for this year's November Sprint Shootout in all four race divisions.

PRE ENTRY BENEFITS:

Although pre-entry is not required, and there is no penalty for not pre-entering, it does have benefits to those who do:

-Sprint teams that pre-enter will have their concrete pads saved and staked with their names on the space. Due to no races currently scheduled in the area, it is possible there will be a very full pit area. If you are a sprint team, and you want a concrete pad, you should pre-enter by going to www.CowtownSpeedway.com and completing the driver registration section.

-Right at 100 teams, total, pre-entered online to the recent Cowtown Sprint Nationals. This gives the track your driver information so they can have your pay card ready to be picked up at the west pit window. This will speed up line times on Friday night, and you won't have to fill out the registration form while you are at the window. Like the CSN, ALL drivers in ALL classes have to get a new paycard for this event. (There's no cost.)

-Pre-entry also gives the track a better idea of total car count, so they can do the best job possible in finding you a good pit space for your size of rig. At the CSN a few weeks ago, there were right at 160 cars in the pits.

-PayPal pre-entry note: if you enter any Cowtown race and pay with PayPal, in the event of a complete rainout, it's super quick and easy for you to be refunded. The track just simply hits the 'refund' button and your funds are immediately sent back to you, which eliminates processing and mail times. There's no fee either, which really makes it nice.

NEW TRACK CONFIGURATION/OPEN PRACTICE SCHEDULED:

And with the new track configuration (10' wider all the way around), you will certainly want to take advantage of open practice (any race division) scheduled for Thursday, November 6 from 5pm to 9pm. That way you can get your car dialed into the new configuration. Pit passes are $20, there will be concessions available, and due to the insurance regulation changes in 2007, the main grandstand will remain closed.

SPRINT TEAMS ENTERED, AS OF 6AM WEDNESDAY:

Sprint entries are already coming in, and here's the drivers who have taken the time to let us know they are coming for sure.

03 Joe Wood, Jr (OK)
b4 Eric Baldaccini (TX)
14b Robert Byrom (TX)
39 Marvin Lough (TX)
45k Kolt Walker (TX)
88 Andy Rea (TX)

It would be my guess that there will be 20-25 sprint teams entering by race weekend, with between 36-50 sprints in the pits. There is a list of drivers that said they plan to come (from what they've told us, and from the STN), but we will only list those confirmed.

The top 6 sprints will lock-in on Friday night, whether there ends up being Twin 25's or Triple 25's. The balance of the field will run straight-up by finishing position in the last chance races on Saturday night, with 16 cars transferring to the feature, total.

We hope that there's a great response from the sprint drivers for this race so the third $1,000 to win race to be added. (There has to be over 45 sprints ready to take the line up call for the feature on Friday for the third feature to be added.)

Between the modifieds, winged 600s and limited modifieds, you can expect around 120 cars total; based on last year's NSS and this year's CSN's numbers.

ADVANCE TICKETS:

Just remember, the cut-off date for saving $10 on two-day passes to the NSS is Wednesday, November 5. Just go to www.CowtownSpeedway.com to get yours - there is no fee or membership required to purchase your tickets online.

11/1: NSS Weather & Pre-Entry Updates

Since Wednesday, there have been four more sprint car online pre-entries to the NSS:

17w Brad Welborn (TX)
45x JP Bailey (TX)
20 Mike George (TX)
TBA Darryl Wills (TX)

We'll post more online entries next Wednesday. Of course, there's still lots of drivers that are coming, but will not enter until they get to the track. You can expect between 36-50 sprints, plus full fields in the modifieds, winged 600's, limited modifieds plus the EJ's Towing Street Stock Extravaganza.

Also, the long-range forecast is still showing great racing weather:

Thu Nov 6, Partly Cloudy 72°/45°, 20% precip

Fri Nov 7, Sunny 70°/46°, 0% precip

Sat Nov 8, Sunny 72°/49°, 0% precip

Don't forget, Wednesday, November 5 is the cutoff date for entering online and to save $10 on grandstand admission. Go to www.CowtownSpeedway.com to enter your car or purchase 2-day grandstand passes.

See you next weekend at the 2nd annual November Sprint Shootout!

Here's hoping that the teams that told me they were coming to Cowtown at the Short Track Nationals still plan on coming. It looks like good money to me. At least they get something on Friday as well as a good payout for Sat. night. Fuel prices are around $2.00 in the area - both above and below that - for regular unleaded. The weather looks like it might be like the Short Track Nat'ls - or slightly warmer. Last sprint race of the season - at least in this area. Hope to see everyone at Cowtown this weekend.

Thanks to a Memphis based team for officially entering the NSS last night.

Tomorrow we'll do a final press release on who's entered (and trust me, it's going to be a barnburner!), and we're still expecting 40-50 sprint teams for Twin or Triple 25's on Friday night qualifying.

(Plus we've got a huge field of Winged 600's gunning for the $1500/win championship, $2000 to win topless modifieds (5th still pays $900) and $1000/win topless limited modifieds.)

One final note, teams can pre-enter online through Wednesday and fans can save $10 on grandstand tickets by purchasing them online at
www.CowtownSpeedway.com - but the sale ends Wednesday night!
