Lets all hope our racing friends are doing okay this morning!

TAVARES, Fla. — Severe thunderstorms tore through central Florida early Friday, damaging homes, causing power outages and killing at least one person, authorities said.

WOFL reported several tornados touched down.

A dispatcher at the Lake County Sheriff's Office confirmed there were fatalities but did not say how many. The woman, who would not give her name, said damage included "every kind of damage you can think of."

Mike Turner, a technician with the National Weather Service in Melbourne said it appeared the fatality occurred in the Lady Lake area, northeast of Orlando. No other details were available.

"Everybody is so busy that we can't get a hold of anybody." Turner said. "We'll know more as the sun comes up and the weather is starting to calm down a bit."

About 20,000 customers were without power across a wide swath of central Florida, Progress Energy spokeswoman Cherie Jacobs said.

Florida Power & Light reported about 200 customers without power in the DeLand area.

There are photos on CNN.com that are pretty nasty. They think it was a tornado.

I saw some pictures of lots of destruction and it was from Volusia county. Did the track survive all the damage? I know that they are planning on having races this coming weekend and also next weekend is the start of the WoO season. I hope everything is ok there because the pictures don't look good.

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

Actually there will be races all next week - the All Stars are scheduled to start Tuesday down there. Here we go with this Mother Nature thing hating the All Stars again. I hope everything is okay at the track and surrounding area. I haven't heard any reports from the Speedway yet.

Track is 36 miles NW from the airport at New Smyrna Beach. 15 miles N of Deland.

I believe most of the damage was East of Tampa, so we didn't get hit too bad last night. Cloudy and some sprinkles at the racetrack, but we are still hoping to race tonight.
