Brian Brown – A New Chapter!

(Bill W) September 10, 2008 – Brian Brown is entering a new chapter in his career…full-time car owner. After being part owner of the SuperClean #21 the last couple of seasons with Tim and Gina Doogs, Brown has assumed sole ownership of the team. The majority of the team's sponsors will stay aboard the Brian Brown Racing #21 including the primary sponsor, SuperClean. This weekend Brian will jump into his ownership role headfirst with four races with the World of Outlaws!

Brian is thankful for his time with the Doogs, who he first partnered with in 2004. "If it wasn't for Tim and Gina Doogs, I can guarantee you I'd be nowhere near where I am with my career right now if I was even racing," he says. "They gave me an opportunity when I was fired from the Casey's car when nobody else would, and we turned a one night a week race team into Knoxville champions together…and it very easily could be two Knoxville championships."

The team went from 360 weekend racers to traveling the Midwest, racking up almost 50 wins in both 410 and 360 action. "All of our marketing partners as well as our teamwork helped us to do a lot of great things in a short amount of time," says the Grain Valley, Missouri driver. "I'm just very thankful for what Tim and Gina have done for me. Hopefully, somewhere down the line they can somehow be a part of Brian Brown Racing again in some capacity."

In a time when race teams come and go like the wind, the team lasted over four years. "It really was a good run," says Brian. "We just had a really good chemistry that you don't find very often. It was like a family, and we won and lost as a team. They never put a lot of pressure on me to perform. We wanted to win every night, and when we rolled into the track, a lot of nights we were the car to beat. We got off that path a bit this year, and we really don't know why."

Looking Ahead

Little will change with the team going ahead, despite rumors and innuendo otherwise. "SuperClean will still be a vital part of the team and will be for some time to come," says Brian. "Ditzfeld Transfer who was my very first sponsor, American Compressed Steel, Housby, Maxim, Champion Brands, Hoosier, SuperClean and all the other partners continue on with Brian Brown Racing. The list goes on and on. No matter what kind of team you have, if you don't have those people believing in your team, you're not going to make it."

Brian is excited about his new opportunity. "I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my career," he says. "I always wanted to be a car owner; I just didn't think it would be this soon! Being a driver/owner presents a lot of challenges, and some I don't even know yet. We'll take it day by day, and see how we can do! I'm just looking forward to getting back racing after a week and a half off. There's not a lot of season left, so we'll roll the sleeves up and get after it!"

Brian will have some familiar faces helping him at the races and in the shop, led by his grandfather, George Lasoski, Glen Wignall and Derek Beckman. Chad Morgan from Kansas and Cody from Washington will be joining the team as well this week. The SuperClean #21 team will hit the track tonight with the WoO in Spencer, Iowa at the Clay County Fairgrounds. From there, they will race at the US36 Raceway near Cameron, Missouri on Friday, Heartland Park near Topeka, Kansas on Saturday, and Lucas Oil Speedway near Wheatland, Missouri on Sunday. "There's nothing like being thrown to the wolves the first time out!" says Brian. "It will be a good opportunity this week to see where we stack up. We'll have some folks from SuperClean at all four events this week, and I look forward to doing well for them and the rest of our partners."

The four tracks present their individual challenges. "We haven't been to Spencer, but I think it will fit our style," says Brian. "It's been feast or famine at Cameron. It was nice and slick when it opened, but the last few years they've wanted to set world records on it, running 9.9 in time trials and 10.2 in the heats. That doesn't make for much passing. Hopefully, it's drier this time. I've never been to Topeka, but Wheatland is one of the top one or two facilities in the country. We've had success there beating the ASCS National guys, so I'm probably looking forward to that one more than any."

Brian's Q&A

Michael in ShawneeMission, KS asks: When you have a few nights of racing in a row, it's a quick turnaround. Do you do anything maintaining your cars between shows that other drivers might not do?

Brian answers: It's pretty much the same for us as anyone else. We clean the torsion bars and the ball. We'll do maintenance on the motor…everything that time allows when you're traveling. We check the driveline, the driveshaft and rear-end about every three races. We try to get on the same schedule every time, so we don't forget anything.
