SpeedSTR's Pursue New Regions with Sprint Cup and Nationwide Stars in Charlotte, NC.

After Ray Evernham's exciting win in the Weikel Racewear SpeedSTR series at the Penn Can Speedway, he couldn't wait to show the boys down south what they are missing out on. Most race team employees are former racers themselves and have given up their fun and excitement of driving racecars to work on Sprint Cup or Nationwide series cars, although most still have the desire to compete. Evernham has felt from the outset that Rich Tobias's creation would be a perfect fit for crew members to fulfill their desires to race and for current drivers to hoan their skills. This series competes on both Dirt and Asphalt with the same racecar and the great thing is they are very easy to work on and extremely affordable.

The guys from Speedway Entertainment were at Dennis Wood's Friendship Motor Speedway this past Tuesday evening with the STR's. The SpeedSTR'shave been making an impact in the Charlotte area thanks to Ray Evernham and Erin Crocker. On hand to get some laps at the high banked 4/10 mile clay oval were Kasey Kahne's Crew chief Kenny Francis and engineer Chad Johnson, Elliot Saddler's crew chief Rodney Childers, Nationwide Superstar Chase Miller, SpeedSTR series regulars Doug Rose and Willy Evernham, Series owner Rich Tobias, Wall Stadium champion Danny Bohn, and of course Ray and Erin. Everyone got a chance to get a good number of laps and all looked very impressive. Kenny Francis just couldn't get enough, when no one was looking he jumped in a third time, went out and laid down some super fast laps after the sun had gone down. The evening finished off with an exciting exhibition of wheel to wheel action between Evernham, Crocker, and Tobias, With Crocker coming out with the win. Mr. Wood couldn't wait to get an event scheduled at his Speedway. Tobias and Wood will be discussing a "Super Event" possibly as soon as this Octobers' Charlotte or Martinsville weekends.

In less than one race season this series has taken off dramatically. A new series is already being started in Canada by Martin Roi and Carl Labonte, it appears that Evernham is close to putting together a series in the Charlotte area, and tracks are already contacting the series for races in the NY, NJ, and PA area. Where else can a future star better position himself than in the Weikel Racewear SpeedSTRseries. With the likes of Ray Evernham, Erin Crocker, and it appears other Nascar stars becoming more and more involved, the exposure is astronomical.
