i am a fan of pretty much all forms of american racing, unlike others on here who it seems just can't stand one form or another. still the irl is proving today it has a long way to go to reclaim any credibility. danica can't get out of the pits without crashing, the rest of the field can't roll around on yellows with out crashing, cars can't even barely touch wheels with out collapsing suspensions. too many races ending under yellows. some say nascar races are boring. at least they can race. yeah sure they crashed all over the place at daytona. but you had 40 guys going 180 trying to win. the irl had 20 cars that couldn't even make laps under yellow going 60 with out crashing. twice. on the same yellow. they have some good moments, but these are supposed to be some of the best drivers in the world and all they seem to do is make mistake after mistake. that is why they don't make the transition to stock cars very well. they can't put consistant laps together. they can't race next to others for long. and if they could, they can't drive their cars hard for long for fear they will fall apart. i don't know. i hear so many out there bitch about nascar and how boring they think it is. i know we sprint car fans like hard driving. well i see the cup guys drive the sh-t out of those sleds. but you put 43 of them out there on a 2 mile track for 500 miles and sometimes you end up with a race like most of you get on half miles back east. zzzzz. i have never seen a boring race at chico or petaluma or tulare or hanford. but stoga usually provides the excitement of grass growing. i bet the "ditch" was a good race. anyway, the irl needs to step up their program and provide some racing.

Of all the races on TV this weekend, the British Grand Prix was by far the best. Plus the season is been pretty damn good as a whole. There's a 3 way tie for 1st in points and 4th is just 2 points out. BTW, the winner today came from 4th and made the pass for the lead on the track (not the pits), in the rain.

I'm sure that was a good race, but you must have missed the Outlaw race (I know it was tape delayed) from Dodge City. Great race.

I missed the IRL race,and the British(Snooty Snob) Grand prix. I did see the Outlaw race again(LIVE-in person) the first time,then on tape delay. Yes, it was a great race. Unfortunately unless its a pavement event, its insignifigant to the networks, or for that matter any major cable network. For example,they would rather provide you with continuous coverage of a ALMS race from Elkart Lake, where the cars look cool at speed amongst the screne back drop of rural Wisconsin, but no one knows a single driver by name that is invovled, or a motor-cycle race from France, same scenerio as the previous. Does anyone really care? The networks don't seem to care about or ask the opinion of the real racing fan, Real American racing with the exception of NASCAR corporate racing, doesn't seem to interest the American racing fan in the eye of the television networks.. But, I am not stating anything that the real roots American racing fan doesn't already have a similar opinion on. Just putting it out there for discussion.. Whew!!! Sorry I got so long-winded......

It's no supprise. Dirt track racing is the minority in the racing world. Very few outside our circle know the secret to great racing.

On the other hand, we Americans are also the minority of the motorsports world. There are roughly 300 million of us, but when you look at the hundreds of millions of motorsport fans worldwide, we are just a drop in the bucket. F1 and MotoGP have phenomonal attendance figures and F1's TV ratings at over 160 million viewers per race swamps the NFL.

Damn I feel sorry for those 160 million people who don't know what REAL racing is... talk about your underprivileged countries...

As much as I wish I could watch sprint car racing on tv like you could back in the day on TNN, I kind of like not being mainstream. NASCAR became mainstream and look at it now zzzzz. I enjoy explaining to my NASCAR friends that sprint cars are quite a bit faster than those 3300 hunks of slow steel.

Not just a sprinter... The Midgets have set a faster qualifying time at Phoenix International's one mile track for the Copper Classic than the NASCAR cars. I believe they did it again last year.

didn't i hear that the midgets went faster times than the new style silver crown cars at some place? phoenix ??? i heard that usac changed everything (rules) and everyone spent all that money going to new silver crown cars in the name of safty and all, then the midgets went out and ran faster with less safty stuff!!

I remember the days when seeing a race on TV was only in black/white only as a short segment on ABC's Wide World of Sports with Chris E standing along side the race car as it was being served during the race. Gone are those days of real race cars and drivers of courage who didn't park the car becuz "it didn"t handle" - they drove the damn car no matter what.

We are now blessed with a great variety of racing forms, all for most the most part being televised live. So I don't see where the beef is. Some don't under the hi level of skill it takes to road race. As far as not knowing the drivers on the sports car events, the field is loaded with great drivers, x-TransAm champs and people who have won the 24 hrs of Daytona and LeMans. So if you don't know them, go to a race and start following it. The best part is they do attract a better quality of women, that should make your trip worth while to start with.

I contend the bikers are still the craziest on dirt or asphalt. What a bunch but great watching. Just enjoy it all and be happy that you could only have to watch baseball, or yes the sacred game of golf, or tennis - what a thrill.

Glad to see Rahal's team win it. Hunter-Reay's first win and Rahal-Letterman's first since 2004.

I agree! An American wins on a road course! AJ's driver Manning finishes second and Buddy Rice finished fourth. Not the greatest side by side racing but I thought overall the race was entertaining. Also, it certainly didn't break my heart to see the Ganassi/Penske tangle under the yellow. As a matter of fact, it actually put a grin on my face!
