FREMONT, Ohio - They say luck is defined as when preparation meets
opportunity. For Greg Wilson the work his team has done over the past few
weeks paid off when opportunity presented itself Saturday at Fremont
Speedway. The two-time and defending O'Reilly All Star Champion was handed
the lead when Dale Blaney got involved in a crash while in lapped traffic,
and went on to score his second straight win at "The Track That Action
Built."

Hey Swamp, Hows come an alternate wasn't pushed out when Gressman went pitside before the initial start? Just curoius, as I thought that as long as the field hadn't taken the initial green that they would push out the alternate car/cars? Were the alternates not staged?

Thanks,

Good show.

According to 2008 rules, there are NO Alternates due to incidents in 2007 and prior years where certain drivers who didn't transfer to the A-main would pay cars to scratch in order to gain valuable points by getting in as an alternate. You didn't really think 2 or 3 cars would scratch and by some miracle "Driver X" would make it into the show by pure luck did you?? We decided that's as much a form of cheating as traction control, so there are no alternates. Gressman fired the car and was on the track, so even though he didn't take the green he got last place money and points.

OK I was just wondering if that was the case. I remember talk of it before now that you bring up that point. Wondered about Gressman being credited with 24th place also as there were only 23 cars listed in the results.

Thanks for the clarification.

Just my opinion, not an attack, every effort short of delaying the race should be put forth to field a 24 car a-main. I understand what you're saying Swamp but I think that the majority of the fans would prefer to see a full field. Once again, just my opinion.

Yeah - but ask Brian Paulus's car owners what they think of getting screwed out of points last Speedweek because someone paid two or three cars to scratch so he could get into the A-main when Paulus had a chance to gain valuable points on the two guys in front of him. He was in 3rd place at the time. That was the final straw after it had happened many times over many years - we made a decision that this was the only way to stop it.

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws had the same problem. Now drivers starting the A-main as an alternate are unable to earn additional points--they race for money only.

That sounds like a great idea Johnny. Nothing beats a good battle for the lead while the leaders are in heavy traffic. Having a full field just makes the chances of that happening so much more. I guess thats why I prefer the shorter tracks also.

By the way, I should have mentioned this before, that was a great show on a great track saturday. That was probably the best condition that I have ever seen fremont and the show was ran at a great pace. I had a buddy come over from western PA for his first visit to fremont and he was definately impressed.

ok quick question and please don't blast me for it. How do u check for traction control? Isn't there a distinct sound that goes with it? I've heard some funny sounding race cars. One at Fremont the other night. Sounded like the car was bogging but was pulling everyone. Just curious.

There is no easy way to check for it - a strip search and a full tear down of the electrical system (MSD Box) would be about the only way. Do I think there are guys running it? YES! Is there any way to stop it? Not really.

Go look at the Davis Technologies web site if you want some info on the latest high tech stuff about the size of a quarter.

No series on any level has had any luck in busting traction control. Sad, but true. Even if they did figure out how to detect one device, a newer version would come out the very next day to replace it.

I knew it was small and usually in the ignition box somewhere just wasn't sure how it was being policed if at all. I would have torn down the funny car if it was me but i know that's a pain.

In essence...it is legalized. There is likely no way for track/series personnel to check for it.

It was a great night of racing with big field of All Star sprints on hand. Good to see Brock Mayes run well...he was really coming on strong at the end. Brandon Martin had a great run going as well from 20th to 5th but lost a drive shaft late in the race. Thanks to all the teams and fans who came out...it really picked up the spirits of all of us associated with Fremont Speedway.
