Jonathan Allard comes home 6th with WSS

By Gary Thomas

January 11, 2007... Coming off of the big win last Saturday night at Brisbane International Speedway, Jonathan Allard had high hopes that he could do it again as the traveling World Series Sprintcars came to town on Wednesday evening. So far during his trip down under Jonathan has gotten back to the consistency that won him the Golden State Challenge Series championship in 2006. With finishes of sixth, fifth and first it's easy to say that JA is back on track and hopefully has ridded himself of the hard luck that plagued him at the end of '06. With that said, Wednesday night kicked off the start of the final week of the season for the World Series Sprintcars and Brisbane International is hosting the final three events.

Wednesday's Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars Round 14 started out with qualifying which was held on a very wet and slippery surface. Thirty-two sprintcars signed in at the back gate and 31 of them clocked times. JA took to the track around midway through the qualifying session and ripped off a lap of 13.101 placing the Ausdeck Patios & Roofing, Weld Racing, Roadway Logistics No. 0 sixth fastest overall.

The two heat race point format is also in place with the World Series Sprintcars and Jonathan first competed in heat three. JA started eighth and passing was difficult so he had to settle for a ninth place finish and try to improve during his second heat. Jonathan next competed in heat five and unfortunately the gremlins from the end of last season returned. Jonathan lined up ninth and on the start Ricky Maiolo and fellow Cali boy Shain Matthews tangled which left JA nowhere to go and he was collected in the incident. Jonathan continued on but had suffered extensive top wing damage which made the car a handful and he eventually went on to finish seventh.

The solid qualifying effort helped out though as Jonathan made it into the A-dash which set up the first six inside rows of the main event. Jonathan was able to get moving and he got around a couple cars to bring the SEQ Fuels No. 0 home in third.

In the feature Jonathan lined up on the inside of row number three in the fifth position. The action in the main event was fast and furious but most of the drivers up front finished where they started as passing opportunites were limited on this night. Jonathan kept at it the whole race and finished the 30 lap contest in sixth. He has now finished sixth or better at every race he's competed in Australia so far during the '06-'07 season.

If there's ever a time to be perfect, however, it will be this weekend as the World Series Sprintcars put an end to their season with the two night Titan Garages World Series Australian Sprintcar Open at Brisbane International. Night one of the huge event kicks off on Friday evening and will conclude the following night with the 50 lap $20,000 to win main event.

We are also rapidly approaching World of Outlaws Down Under 4 at the Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway in Sydney. The three day event kicks off on January 18 and runs through the 20th. For all the latest news on Jonathan Allard visit www.allardmotorsports.com
