Jonathan Allard fights tight race car to fifth place finish at Brisbane
by Gary Thomas

January 2, 2006... Following a sixth place finish during the USA Sprints opener at Brisbane International on Friday, Jonathan Allard returned to action at Brisbane on New Years Day and picked up a hard fought top five finish in the feature. The night as a whole went a lot smoother than the opening round which saw the rutty surface send JA upside down in one of his heats and force him to run the B-main.

It may be a new year, but Jonathan showed early in the night that he still has a knack for ripping off a good lap when on the clock. JA had a fast lap of 11.781 during timed warm ups which was the fastest among the 32 other entrants.

Once again each driver competed in two heat races apiece and Jonathan lined up 10th in the opening heat. JA methodically worked his way forward and brought the Ausdeck Patios & Roofing No. 0 Maxim home in fifth place. Jonathan would next hit the track in heat five and this time would be starting in the seventh position. JA was on the hammer at the waving of the green flag and began to pick cars off one by one. When the white flag was unveiled from the starters stand Jonathan sat in second place just behind leader Wayne Lemon, and was in position to pounce. JA had his sights on the victory and brought the crowd to their feet with a last turn, last lap pass of Lemon to take the win.

Jonathan earned enough points on this night to make the dash and he also scored a starting spot on the front row. He took command at the start and drove the Roadway Logistics, Weld Racing, SEQ Fuels No. 0 to the win and scored the pole position for the feature event.

In the first set of corners of the feature, Jonathan lost a couple spots as he fought a tight condition due to making the wrong tire choice and it ended up plaguing the Ausdeck No. 0 throughout the race. Even with the extremely tight condition JA did his best to wheel the car and he came home with a fifth place finish.

Jonathan’s next race at Brisbane International Speedway in the Ausdeck Patios & Roofing No. 0 Maxim will be this Saturday January 6. It will be a big night because it marks the final race at Brisbane International before the traveling World Series Sprintcars invade the track for three big night’s of action next week. The World Series Sprintcars will compete in a stand alone night on Wednesday January 10 at Brisbane and then on Friday and Saturday it will be the two night World Series Sprintcars season finale. Saturday night’s main event will be 50 laps and will pay $20,000 to the winner. Jonathan showed on New Years day that he has some serious speed and should be a strong contender when the World Series Sprintcars come to town.
