Check out e-bay and the prices that tickets are going for. Looks like the most profitable was 2 tickets all four nights for $1,225. Thats over 4 times face value. Next is 4 tickets, 4 nights for $1,525, about 2 times face value. And quite a number going for twice the face value. What does everyone think about this? Is this good for the event? Is it free enterprise at it's best or worse? Was I stupid for selling a four night set for face value, when I could have made enough profit to have paid for all of mine? Does my stupidity continue because I am offering to sell 2 three night sets for face value?

Also, something I noticed last year as I was trying to sell a few tickets (face value) near the expo entrance, was scalpers offering less than face value and people selling them for less and then these same scalpers reselling for a profit the next day. These folks never attended the races and were not even race fans, just scalpers looking for a fast buck.

I guess that as long as us true fans continue to purchase at these prices, it will continue to escalate to even higher prices. Whats to keep the scalpers from purchasing large quantities of tickets, forcing us fans to pay even more? Should the officials take note of these e-bay scalpers and not offer them tickets for next year?

Success has it's price, doesn't it?

The Chili Bowl is outgrowing itself!! What used to be an awesome 4 (even better 3) nights of racing is taking on more and more the overall feel of a NASCAR event...This isn't a good thing..

hey cheroger! hope to see ya there. i've been telling guys at work about the overall size of the event and how its grown in just the few yrs. that we've been goin. must have been really nice when not so many folks knew about it. yea, the "profiteers" seem to be around every sporting event these days.....some times you can make out with them, some not..... it depends on you're timing & your wants. as for e-bay, are those the asking prices or bids? you mean people really pay that much? hell, i don't think we'll have that much in flights, rental, room, tix, food, AND BEER!!! and you KNOW me & beer!!LOLOLOL

Hey Stubb, how's you and the misses? I'm sure we will cross paths at the bowl, too bad we won't have the fuzzy photo booth to meet up at. The prices I posted are completed auctions, meaning that they actually sold for that amount. Unbelievable but true. See ya in a few weeks.

You're right about trying to keep scalpers (eBay is legalized scalping, isn't it?) from buying large quantities of tickets and the true fans getting shut out on ticket sales. I don't know that the Chili Bowl office would/could monitor that. Maybe they should not allow large lots of tickets to anyone unless they knew for sure that they are indeed true fans.

Easy enough solution.....Sell next year's tickets to those that actually used Saturday night's tickets, not just who bought them.

Everything including your driver's license is barcoded these days, it wouldn't be too much of an investment to barcode the tickets, buy some handheld scanners and the software to work it all. NEXTEL probably has some fancy phone and the software solution to do that already.

<>I've seen the e-bay posts, insane is the word I would use for those bidding a grand or more. It looks as though the latest bids for two sets are around 450-500 a pair. I'm looking to buy two sets myself, I'm willing to pay a little more than face value, say $20-50 a set more. If anyone would like to sell a couple of sets to two true race fans from Wisconsin who would like to see their first Chili Bowl, e-mail me at:

It sounds like a great event, it's harder and harder to keep great things a secret. It would be a shame if the event were overun by those who are looking to profit off it's popularity.

there is now a defined list of season ticket holders and no one else can get them unless we give ours up.(fat chance). I would guess not to many of these people are scalpers, and the scalpers are more likely picking them up earlier in the year off ebay and these message boards sometimes disguised as real race fans then reselling them now at a profit. from time to time on earlier this year there was tickets for much less. Sell only to who you know.

I too have seen the same faces every year outside the expo center selling tickets. If you have an extra to sell at the door don't sell right away take a few minutes and watch the action and you will easily see who the scalpers are. It will not be hard then to find the real race fan and under cut the scalper with your face value ticket. the key is to keep the tickets out of there hands.

but as long as the amount of people that want to go far out weighs the amount of people that can go I dont know how you can stop rising prices. I too if for some reason I lost my tickets would be willing to pay a little more.

It looks like the chili bowl is a great value for the money. If it wasn't worth it people would not pay the price. scalping is just something we do not see much.since there is rarely(almost never) a limited amount of tickets at your local race tracks.
