Sunday, May 9th a little corner of my world will return to something resembling normal. I'm so looking forward to sitting high up in the turn 4 stands watching sprint cars fly through the corners. I believe I've attended 50% of the races there in about the last 5 years. It would have been 100% but I was gone for the other one. Husets running 410 sprints, Racesaver sprints, and Late Model Street stocks. They are not running hobby stocks, micro sprints or B-mods. Should be a pretty fast moving show.

It will be interesting to see where the cars are going to come from. Hartford, 20 miles away, runs Racesavers and LMSS. Jackson, 90 miles away runs 360's, Knoxville and Grand Forks, each a long ways away run 410's. There are also WoO races and big specials planned.  With Todd Quiring the new owner, I expect a lot of great things this year at Husets.

What are you expecting from Husets this year?

I assume car counts will be the issue. But the purses are good, and I assume the fan count will be high. Hopefully in a few years we'll see a resurgance of cars in the midwest.

What a relief.  I was being a little vague as I couldn't quite remember the timeline but knew I could count on someone having to correct me. I'm looking forward to someone telling me the exact mileage to Knoxville and to Grand Forks as well.  Thanks for playing. :)

Yes, I agree. For starters, I presume a fair amount of the 410 filled will be Jackson cars with their smaller 410s. Hartford's Racesaver counts have been growing and there's talk of a fair amount of LMSS cars so I hope this is the rise of the Phoenix.

I'm guessing 30+ 305's every night, and 18-22 410's at a weekly show(as long as the ND boys come down).

Are you racing a 305?

I really can't tell if you're needing attention, an unfunny dad type, or if you're just that socially awkward. I'm going to be charitable and assume you have some sort of diminished capacity issues and make you invisible to me.

I hate to burst your bubble Brandon, but you may see those numbers on opening night, but you wont see those numbers on a week in week out basis.

I-90 Cant pull over 20 - 305 on a weekly basis, you won't pull those numbers at Husets, you know just as well as some, those walls dont move.

410s - there is no in the area, and if you think you will get Support from ND and IA that havent came in the past you are crazy...We have Terry McCarl (Semi -Weekly), Mark Dobmeier, Justin Henderson, Matt Juhl, Rosenboom, Chucky,

You will get Jeffery some and Carson McCarl some.

The rest will be 360's.

Also there was $400 tow money for that class not long ago, and you didnt have to make the show....and nobdoy showed up then with this purse...

POS.     Badlands
1     5,000.00
2     2,500.00
3     2,000.00
4     1,500.00
5     1,250.00
6     1,000.00
7     950.00

18     700.00
19     700.00
20     700.00

Same Broken Record, Just different Day.

Look for about 15-20 305s weekly with about the same 410/360 mix each week

I guess I'm a little more optimistic. Sure, it will take time, but give it a few years and I think they can build the car counts back up. Husets will be working with other tracks, not against them. That in itself should go a long way. I went to the Badlands press conference and came away thinking that was a non-racing guy with money looking in. With Tod Quiring, I feel like Husets has a racing guy on the inside, with a plan.

332 miles from Knoxville Iowa to Brandon SD according to Google maps. Don't know how you came up with your numbers? Approximately 5 hr drive.

The original.poster was quite clear to me that he was joking and emphasizing  the silliness of his 50% of the races comment. It appears to have flown over a few. I am sure he was aware there were very few races at Husets over the last 5 years.

I started going to Husets Speedway early in the 1984 season and went to over 90% of the races until it became Badlands Speedway.  I went to perhaps a third of the races at Badlands Speedway. That's probably close to 600 races at Husets Speedway, plus one of the two races (50%) last year. I hope that gives me enough street cred to be excited about the upcoming season at Husets.

Murphy- Yes I'll be there weekly with the 305.

Ron- I do agree that we will see numbers dip eventually as yes, in fact those damn walls don't move . But I've heard of roughly 8 new 305's going together in this area!  With the IMCA line-up process,  the low point guys starting in front and high point guys starting at the back of the invert(as long as they make the invert), will be very conducive to passing as well as wrecking!  Fingers crossed we can keep the car counts up.

In regards to the 410's, correct me if im wrong but I believe they're NOSA points shows so that'll definitely bring some ND cars down If they are.

Murph I am gonna join you in the optimistic camp.

410s as stated Henderson, Juhl, Jody , Chuck.

For locals I assume Lunstra (TK driving?), Kenny/Cody Hansen, Dave Ekern have a car? Elliott
Amdahl has 410, I assume Colin Smith has a 410, Many NOSA appearances should bring 7-10 ND cars.

Jackson area Tori Tornado and Skyler Prochaska?

Central Iowa Terry and Carson and Lyton fairly often, plus another 1 or 2. Somebody said Brown more often?

I am guessing 22 to 27 cars most weeks.

The 5000 to win 700 to start didn't draw cars WTF are you talking about? That season had great 410 car counts all year!

What is the status of Mark Dobmeier is he ready to go full speed ahead, haven't seen much about him?

I am guessing 30 or more 305s most weeks.

17 to 20 LMSS.

I'm not sure if Juhl will race there weekly unless he has his own equipment still. The Renfro team he is driving for this year doesn't usually stray too far from home. I think you're pretty close on the NOSA participation. Probably see Dobmeier, Nygaard, and Mullins every week. West Fargo is running Race Saver sprints this year  so a few of them may show up. Back in the Badlands era, they were pulling cars away from Knoxville. The $400 tow money was the big draw back then. They also had bonus money to win multiple sprint car main events each week.

Comenters are mentioning the number of 360's that will run with the 410's.  Are these guys competitive at all?  Any 360 winners in the 410 class?  I haven't been to Husets so I don't know it well, only from pictures and youtube.

I don't recall hearing that 360's are that competetive unless it is a very short track.  I do recall a LM driver at Sunset in Omaha winning a Busch Tour race running his weekly motor against the Busch guys and winning as his set up was perfect that night (#63 The Wanz).

The track is relatively short. It's a small 3/8 mile. The 360's can run with the 410's but I can only think of a couple times where a 360 beat the 410's. Those times were on a dry slick track and quite a number of years back. The faster 360's will race the slower 410's in the middle of the pack.

Back many years ago, probably back when the 410's at Huset's were running the McCreary track tire, Jake Peters won a few races running his ASCS 360 in the 410 class.

IMO that McCreary tire deal was the best thing that the Rubins ever did while they owned Huset's.   Its a shame they don't still run a spec tire like that.    That tire was about the same hardness as a street tire and couldn't lay rubber on a dirt track if you wanted it to which led to some awesome racing.    The cushion was normally against the fence with a little bit of tackiness down at the apron and a slicked off middle.

I think Gregg Bakker , Jake Peters, and maybe Dusty Ballenger had won 410 features at Husets with a 360.

Would you think 360s like Bakker, Eric Lutz, Dusty Zomer will run there or get 410s to run Sundays?

Hadn't heard Jerry Wancewicz won a Busch race at Sunset, that place was always dry slick so kind of a horsepower equalizer.

I wasn't there but remember 30+? years ago at the September 100 lapper at Sunset Al Druesedow 38 getting a 2nd with a weekly car.
