No, it's not too early to begin planning...

I am looking for a spot for 11 nights that is closer to the track than Van Donsler's for a 28' toy hauler trailer (and a couple of pickup trucks) that has water and electric...Sewer would be a plus but not required. Email me at [email protected] or text to 469-338-3675

If you are looking to stay at a campground check out Howell Station at Red Rock. It's a gov. run campground. Has power, no sewer hookup or water hookup. Water is easy available throughout the grounds along with several sewer dump stations.

The County Park is farther from the track than Van Donselar's.  Also, it's full except for the non-reservable spots.

When I open that link it takes me to Tennessee. I know y'all got great highways but I still think that's a bit far away.

.

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Just to be clear...I don't mind Van Donsler's, I've camped there many times, but something CLOSER to the track is preferred as I am bringing several 1st timers and I would like for them to be closer to the "spectacle".

I camped with some buddies at this place just a block and a half behind Hyvee.  It is gravel base, with water and electric service, 30 and 50 amp.  I loved it there as I thought it was pretty close.  I am not sure that you will get closer than this unless you find someones house to park at.  Corner of Grant and the railroad tracks. It is just a long, narrow strp but he gets lots of campers in there I know if I come to Knoxville the next time, I will want to camp here.  It seems that the other places on 14 are just too far to walk.

Do you have their contact information?

I don't but I can try to get it.  I think kt's the same guy that runs the other campground, or maybe all of them, II'm not sure.  All I know is we were supposed to park at one place off 14, and they didn't reserve my buddy a spot so they sent us over to this place.  I think the guy running around name is Rich or Rick?  I'll try to get you more info.

It's probably Rick VanDonsler.  He has his big campground north of the track but also has a couple other places around town.

I decided to do the North Campground. I've stayed there many times before and the price is great ($425 for 11 nights) and it is nice to have the shower house there. For those planning on attending, you had better call quick, it is filling up fast. I actually just got on a waitlist today but she felt there would be room for the 28' tag toy hauler I will have and she would call soon to verify.

This lot is also run by Van Donselar; it's called Shinn's Lot.  If you get in the North Campground, you'll actually be farther away from the track than if you stayed at Van Donselar's campground because it's north of Van Donselar's.  Don't know if you'd be able to get in Van Donselar's campground or his Shinn's Lot.  You'd have to send in an application with payment and wait to see how many return from last year.  I talked to him this fall and it sounded like he would have space available.  He hasn't updated his application form and campground rules for 2021 yet which are due to be returned by March 1, so he's cutting it a little close.  Hope something hasn't happened that he hasn't update the form.  If you want to stay as close as possible, you might want to give him a call and see if he has room.

I am aware of the North Campground being a few hundred yards further...I have stayed many times at Van Vonsler's, the North Campgrounds and apparently Shinn's (corner of Baker and Depot???) once as well as Keith (RudeDog) and Michelle Norton's old house on Middle St. I spoke with Rick a couple of weeks ago and he seemed overwhelmed with a home renovation project he's working and said the form wouldn't be ready for a couple of weeks. I would love to get back at Shinn's, it was very convienent and low key. The North Campground is at capacity for large RVs as everyone has "rolled over" their 2020 reservations. But they seemed to think they could fit in my 28' tag toy hauler.

AJ called me yesterday and we had a good talk. He bought Shinns and another property 1 block off Lincoln across from Dollar General. Even though he says Knoxville is making it tougher and tougher to get approved for allowing campers, he seemed to think he would have a couple of options other than right by Dingus.

Got any details on A.J.'s lots; size, electric, water, sewer, cost, etc.?  We're in the north campground and wouldn't mind getting closer to the track too.

I have spots about three blocks from the track, I have a waiting list for the nationals, but have spots for the other events, [email protected] for more info.
