I'm sitting here in my camper reviewing the format to The One and Only.  Am I the only one who is rather pumped about this?  We are about ready to watch the entire field, 3 nights in a row.  It got me thinking: (and before everyone starts flipping out, this is hypothetical) in the future, would an "invite" approach be an answer should the nationals not consistently stay in the 90-100 car range?  I really like this idea of cars running, and accumulating points for 2 days.  Could still do 4 day format.  Can still run Hard Knox night.  But I love that we have potential to see Larson/Schuchart/Schatz/Sweet/Gravel/underdog battle 3 nights in a row!   Don't get me wrong, I'm a little down about this not being the nationals.  But I gotta say,  more pumped than I thought I'd be.

Actually, you did point out one negative about the Nationals format which I absolutely love.   If you have a favorite driver and he does well on his qualifying night, then you only see him race on two of the four nights.   The positive that offsets that just a little is that the field generally has very strong cars and drivers in it each night.   But I think you have a great idea if the Nationals ever did get to where it was drawing substantially less than it does now.

This should be the Kings Royal format which generally gets about 60 cars. Leave the Nationals format as it is.

Don't think he's proposing to change the Nationals format, unless the Nationals eventually drops down from 100 cars to 60 cars.

That would be a sad day for all.

A 3 day show with 60+ cars and most of the best in the business. I'd be pumped too. It might be scaled back this year but they can still call it the nationals as far as I'm concerned. I mean, seriously, is there gonna be anyone missing that would have a good shot at winning?

Larson needs a new nickname. Dude is a dirty driver. You DON'T have room to slide a guy if your hitting his front end with your tail. Becoming a common place event for this guy.

I wonder how much McCarls oil leak impacted tonight? First Pittman spins and then Eliason. Kind of weird to have random spins at the front of the field right after someone starts leaking oil.

As Schuchart said, he's got a reputation to live up to.

The work area left me and everyone I was watching with scratching our heads.  How do they determine who gets to be the first to go to the work area?  It was very evident tonight with the time difference between when Schatz got to the work area and when Sweet got there.  Granted I don't think Sweet was getting back out there regardless, but sucks that one guy has time to rebuild a car and the other gets 2 minutes due to when they arrive.

And did I understand it correctly that McFadden didn't get back out because the wrecker for Sweets car was blocking him in?  That guy can't catch a break this year.

Eliason and Pittman weren't the only ones either.   A few others got extremely loose when the went low in turn one, including Larson.   Larson managed to save it, but he nearly spun.

And who exactly has he crashed or taken out?   And it was only a week ago that he nearly got taken out by his buddy Rico.   It's called hard racing....

I've commented in other threads about his slide jobs. There's a line between "dirty" and "clean". He errs on the side of dirty in my opinion. He doesn't have a problem with throwing his car in front daring people to hit him. Rico is more likely to do it as well, but Larson does it WAY more often.

The circumstances are ripe for this. Larson doesn't have to live with these guys. He's here temporarily and will move on. You never see any of the fulltime Outlaws pull that as brazenly as Larson does. The last time I remember it happening that badly was Shane Stewart in front of Gravel two years ago at Eldora. Stewart apologized publicly in his post race interview saying "I don't want to win like that". Larson doesn't seem to care. He has a win at all costs mentality. Full time Outlaws likely still have Jason Johnson's memory firmly planted in their heads. They realize that Larson is putting their lives in danger at a degree they aren't comfortable with. That's the reputation he seems to be comfortable with.

Couldn't pop a pimple on Wolfgang's ass? Bold. But it's hyperbolic to the point of being laughable.

Well it was pretty simple, Schatz didn't need a wrecker, his car was able to be rolled from the incident to the work area. Sweets car had to be towed. And it all didn't matter, Sweet's car was no way getting back out there.

Right, I shouldn't have made the comparison between Schatz being pushed and the others being towed.  As it played out it didn't make a difference.  But in the case of McFadden, he had a real shot of getting back out there because he was the first of the 3 to be towed back.

I don't know but it sure looked like his left rear was covered in oil when they pushed him to the work area for the crew to look at it.

"Larson doesn't have to live with these guys."

Actually, I think he is pretty close with his brother-in-law - Brad Sweet.
