Really sorry to see this about the #45 team and disappointed. However I have said all along that I believe tire doping has been going on for the last 3 years or so with local teams especially one individual team who seems to excell on slicker, dry surfaces.

I wish the local PA tracks would randomly test tires on 2 cars per night. That would stop the cheating real quick.

I totally agree along with motor pumping.

I wonder how often the outlaws and all stars send tires to be checked. We never hear about it.

Cost.. plain and simple.. But like I told a tech man once.. You make the announcement your testing.. Take a few samples.. Who says you have to send them in.. BUT.. also make it known no one will know the results unless your tire is no legal.. That will make guys think about using a cheated up tire..

Open tire rule. Problem solved. the only downside is that promoters will lose their hoosier tire money and might have to actually be promoters to find other sponsers.

I thought there existed a simple gauge to check how soft a tire's surface is? Wouldn't softness be the only thing that putting on an illegal compound would affect anyway?

Motor pumping ? You do realize that 410's are running anywhere from 14 to 16 to 1 compression ratio's in today's motors.

I have heard it cost about $300 for a lab to test tires. They also have to test dirt samples from track as dirt has all kinds of crap in it, brake fkuid, antifreeze, engine oil, power steering fluid and of course tire remains.

So "doping" a tire makes it softer right? Seems to me that you would only want to do that for time trials or a heat race, not the A main. Am I missing something?

Theres a chemical out there that makes the tire not wear as hard and keeps it cooler.. Once you get heat in a tire it could blister, grow in size causing a stagger issue.. Its hard to tell what, if anything, was on his tire.. I personally dont think its worth the risk to alter the tire, the time involved is nuts.. And the risk of what it does to the rep of the driver and team.. But.. the team is the only one who knows if it was treated or not..

It's more about how it wears during a race. Yes the rubber gets softer but it last longer and stays at the desired temp longer. Therefore maximizing grip while everyone else is falling off late in the race. *My statements are in no way a suggestion or an admission of guilt. Simply a guide for what I belive tire dope to be*

They are fining the team, amongst other fines, the cost of the test which was around $120 to $130 bucks (somewhere around that number).

What does that have to do with measuring cubic inches?

Ya it exists. And I've seen it used on doped tires before, read slightly soft, and they move on. Haha. What threshold do you allow for manufacturing tolerances and how can you then prove they were doped? Seems like a feel good when they are used.

Wouldn't there be some benchmark level of hardness from the manufacturer, so they don't ship spec tires that are too hard or too soft?

Age, sun exposure, has it been wrapped, manufacturing tolerances, quality of the testing equipment, or the way the test was administered leaves too much room for doubt. I know it's a little over the top but a chemical composition test is truly the only way to be 100% positive.

Well I really don't feel anyone is stupid enough to go over on cubic inches. I looked at it as him saying the cost of motors because guys are building hand grenades and that is related to light weight rotating assemblies and compression.
