Like everyone else here, I'm sick about hearing about the same old thing over and over and over and over.....

I/we need something to cheer us up. Who can provide some links to good sprint car races to watch?

ps. No spoilers. Don't tell me who won beforehand.

**bonus points if it's something older or something non WoO.

YouTube is full of videos of old races. Knoxville races at just posted a bunch of new stuff this weekend. Dirtvision's vault is free to watch with lots of old races. Hope this helps.

I've been watching some old Indy car and NASCAR races on YouTube. Yesterday I watched the 1991 Long Beach GP, and both NASCAR races from Suzuka. Pretty entertaining.

NASCAR has spint cars? ;)

I'll admit, I've been tempted and watched some old NASCAR videos recently. To be fair, some of the old races look a lot more "racey" than current day races. I suppose that's because what's featured on YouTube is sort of a "best of" races from the past 50-60 years.

Anybody have good reccomendations for some tight bullring tracks?

I'd recommend checking YouTube for some of the Indiana bullrings running non-wingers.

and.. for 3 minutes of pure zaniness.  you tube, search Langhore 1951.  its the next to last lap of a early NASCAR race on a one mile dirt track.     and the classic example of the quest for speed, leaving safety and common sence at home, in the garage...

Try Lawrenceburg, Kokomo, Lincoln Park, and Gas City.   Those should do the trick.

I've heard of Ben Hur but I'm not too familiar. Was he wing or non-wing?

This winter I have watched quite a few Nascar races from the 90's on Youtube as well as some Indycar/Cart. Also watched some of the old monster truck racing shows that were on TNN (Penda Point Series) and old ASA races. Broke out the dvd collection that I have buying up some old Outlaw & All Star races at the track.

Thanks! That was quite interesting. I could have done without the screeching tires on a dirt track sound effects.

It's hard to go wrong by watching the 1990 Knoxvilled Nationals from the D-main on, I've watched that one a few times.

I've also watched a few NASCAR races from the early 90s, I was only 11 when Davey Allison died and not a NASCAR fan at the time but he seemed like a cool guy, I think that was a huge loss for the sport.  I've enjoyed watching the full races, I watch the pre race (which in those days was about 10 minutes) and then just skip ahead until there's a caution, pit stops or if they're interviewing crew chiefs or owners.  But as a side note for the people who claim they don't like the racing at Daytona or Talladega but still keep watching (like me), you guys should check out the 1991 Daytona 500.  I didn't look into it too much but from what I gathered in pre-race was a crew member was killed on pit road in 1990.  So NASCAR tried some ridiculous pit rules in my opinion.  The two main ones I remember were, if a car had an opposite numbered pit stall, they could only pit on odd laps and cars in even numbered pit stalls could only pit on even numbered laps, this was under green only, on caution everyone could pit.  The idea was they wanted to have a pit stall between cars when they were changing tires.  It didn't seem like a bad idea except that if a car blew a tire and was on the wrong lap and pitted when no one else was on pit road, he would be penalized, even though there was no additional danger.  But the idea I really liked was fuel only on cautions.  The idea with this was they didn't want crew members on the right side of the car when pit road was full, obviously this means they had to make green flag pit stops for tires.  The majority of the race from what I saw was several packs of 5-8 cars around the track.  It was interesting and though I think it looked like it was a disaster at the time, it definitely broke up the pack racing.  I think it would be fun to watch them do this today.  What do you guys think

The crew guy was Mike Rich from Bill Elliott's car. Ricky Rudd spun in the Levi Garrett car and hit the back of the car when he was performing his duties at Atlanta. For whatever reason I remember that like it's burned in my head even though I was only 7.

I've been hitting up late 80's early 90's Indy 500's.  The 1989 one is burned in my head too. I remember both of my parents being pissed at Emmo for making contact with Little Al at the end of that one. As a little kid, I was always a Al Unser Jr fan and Rick Mears too. I guess because he was my mom's favorite. Pops was/is an AJ Foyt guy.

Anyway, three points about that '89 race: 1) You wanna talk about lap cars being "in the way", check out the end of that race. There were lap cars everywhere and it definitely made it exciting, 2) Even though Little Al ends up in the wall he still finishes 2nd. Why? He and Emmo were the only two cars on the lead lap by the point, and 3) ABC sure did love the close ups of the wives in the waning laps. Damn that was annoying. Too bad Roberto Guerrero was never in contention that late in the race when I watching. His wife? Mega crush for me when I was little.

PS- Also check out the '91 Indy 500. Dyn-o-mite final restart.

I checked those tracks out on YouTube. Made me remember why I like small tracks over big ones!

Like always, I ended up going down a rabbit hole on YouTube. The Lincoln Park races look darn tight! Is that a quarter miler?

Best small track race I found was at some place I'd never heard of- Fairbury Illinois, last year- 6-4-19.

'Watched '92 Syracuse mile WoO. I'd swear that the wings looked bigger, maybe 5-1/2' x 5-1/2', 6' x 6' or an optical illusion?

'Found WoO Throwback Thursday and forgot all about the corona whatever.... I close my eyes and I slipped away......
