Did anyone notice David Gravel won twice this weekend? That's pretty good too.

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Yes, I noticed. Gravel was fast all weekend.  The real story is SWEET winning the Championship!  Taking nothing away from Gravel.

Let's go Sprint Car Racing!

Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

First time since 2010 that Schatz didn’t win either Knoxville or the Outlaw title. Puts in perspective the type of effort it takes to beat him, even in a down year.

I was saying last night with Jacob leading early that would of been the worst race for him to win, with the championship and everything going on. Probably would of gotten lost in the mix him getting his first outlaw win

Did Jacob's tires wear out?

Sweet & Gravel are the new Kinser & Swindell, with Schuchart on the way up too...

OK, don't give me grief about "they haven't equalled The King's achievements yet".... thats obvious

No one has reached the Kings achievements and probably never will.  They call him the King for a reason. The Championships and  the win total are out of reach......

Congrats to Sweet and the KKR team.

Alot of people are saying this team will take over now.  I remember a few years ago when Schatz didnt win the title and people were saying the same thing.  I think Donny and the 15 team will be back stronger next year(engine program, no Ricky on the road).

Donny's success is more impressive than Kinser's and you won't change my mind. Competition not even close to comparable. Just like Jimmie Johnson's success is more impressive than Petty or Earnhardt. Sure their nicknames are "The King" but they simply raced against inferior competition with insane advantages in equipment.

As a fan I hope that team takes over but I have my doubts and they are not just centered around Donny. Past couple of years the competition has been creeping up on the 15. While they still won the title by hundreds of points, you could tell guys like Sweet, Gravel, Schuchart, and at one point Stewart may catch up. Past couple of years either one would have the consistency but not the wins (Sweet) & another would have the wins but not the consistency (Gravel), or one would have a little bit of both and keep getting better each year (Schuchart). Each year all 3 seem to have been building off of that. I would say that out of those 4 teams it could be up for grabs if all 4 stay together we could be set for some great years ahead.

I'd agree in some respects with that. It is just sometimes too hard to compare different generations to each other. They each had different challenges to face than the other did & I would say they are probably the top 2 when it is all said and done. That is not a shot at Sammy or Doug to all of the old timers out there so just relax, this is all subjective in the eyes of the beholder & just my opinion not law.

I would actually Gordon's success was more impressive than Petty, Earnhardt, and Johnson. That is coming from someone who could not stand Gordon. I think the competition was a lot harder for Gordon than Johnson as well & some of the titles that Johnson won were a product of the championship system and not out of dominance like Gordon won his.

Agreed with your points on Gordon. If not for the stupid points systems... he would've had 7 titles in the traditional format.

Yupp, talk about a missed marketing/promotional opportunity for Nascar. I also think based on points he would have been in the hunt going into Homestead for an 8th (not 100% sure on the accuracy of that).  Basically when you think about the best drivers of each generation you  would think Petty, Earnhardt, Gordon. Each driver would have had 7 titles with Gordon trying for an 8th (if true) would have been something you could have promoted all year long & got viewership.

Thankfully the Outlaws or even regional series do not do any playoff formats like Nascar. I would say the traditional add up the total at the end of the year works versus having a reset. Other than maybe 1 or 2 years, there really is not arguing that the point system produced the best driver team as the champion. And 38/39 out of 40 is a pretty good ratio.

This year shows the beauty of a season long points system.  Yes lots of years the title is decided before the last few races, but when you get a battle like this it is very compelling.  A manufactured system to have an artificially close title race can never equal real drama that builds up over the course of several months.

Sweet & Schatz swapped the point lead several times.  I know there were at least a couple times that I thought for sure Schatz was gonna run off with it & then Sweet would come right back.  Sports theater at it's best.
