GRANT SEXTON STAYS HOT WITH A THIRD PLACE FINISH AT VENTURA

(Lakeside, CA, November 4, 2019) Teenage racer Grant Sexton continued his late-season surge when he raced to a third-place finish in the 25-lap California Lightning Sprint Car Series main event on October 26th at the Ventura Raceway.  The impressive performance was the fourth consecutive time that the high schooler has recorded a top three main event finish.

With 19-cars on hand at the ocean side oval, Grant was the fastest of the two Sexton/Gatlin Racing entries in qualifying.  The 15-year-old timed in seventh quick with a lap of 13.212.  His father, Brent Sexton, qualified one spot behind his youngest offspring with a time of 13.274.

Heat race action saw the family duo split up in two separate races.  Grant was in the first heat and brought it home in third.  A few moments later in the second heat, Brent brought his pretty #44 car across the line in fourth.

For the main, Grant started on the outside of row four just in front of his father.  Once the green flag sent the field on its way, Grant shifted into forward motion.  He had pushed his #3 up to fifth by the end of the third circuit and three laps later he was up to fourth.

In a race plagued by crazy lapped traffic, the teen maintained his poise and kept moving towards the front.  At the end of the 15th lap, he used the inside line to secure third.  Along with the other leaders, Grant weaved his way in and out of the traffic and ended up closing on the second-place car.  However, time ran out before he could make another move and he had to settle for third in the 25-lap race that went green to checkered with no yellow or red flags.

Brent locked up another top ten finish when he came home in the ninth spot.

This Friday and Saturday, Sexton/Gatlin Racing heads to the “Cal Cup” at Central California’s Lemoore Raceway.  Full details for the team’s plans for that event will be forthcoming within 48 hours.
