DALTON SEXTON GETS SEASON BEST 3RD PLACE FINISH – GRANT SEXTON EARNS HARD CHARGER AWARD!

(Lakeside, CA, November 1, 2018) This early in their budding racing careers, it is seldom that teenage racers Dalton and Grant Sexton outshine their father Brent, but that is exactly what happened when the USAC California Lightning Sprint Car visited the Ventura Raceway on October 28th.  Fifteen-year-old Dalton had his season-best third place finish and 14-year-old Grant won the main event “Hard Charger” award after starting 17th in the main event and finishing sixth.

Saturday’s race was the final time the CLS would be visiting the Ventura Raceway in 2018 and a stellar field of 22-cars signed in at the pit gate.  When qualifying concluded, Brent, 46, was the fastest of the family trio when he timed in at 12.331.  Grant was second quickest in the family with a lap of 12.380.  That was good enough for 11th in the field.  Dalton ended up 15th fastest with a time of 12.568.

For the main event, Brent had the best starting spot of the three as he was on the outside of the front row.  Dalton started on the inside of the fifth row at the beachside oval located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds and Grant was starting in the ninth row.

Brent ran second for the first half of the race, but dropped back noticeably around the halfway point with a broken steering box.  However, the kids had no problems finding their way forward.  Dalton and Grant dazzled the crowd with stirring performances that saw them pass a combined 17-cars.  Dalton came all the way to third for his first ever CLS podium finish.  Grant, who is the 2018 CLS Rookie of the year, passed 11 cars and won the “Italian Stallion Hard Charger Award” and collected the $50.00 that goes with it.  Father Brent brought his ill-handling car home ninth.  It was the second race in a row that all three finished in the top ten.

With only one race to go in the season, the 2nd Annual Western States Lightning Sprint Cars Championship at the Bakersfield Speedway on November 17th, Brent is fourth in the championship standings, but is only six points out of third.  Grant sits ninth in the standings and is only 13-markers out of eighth.  Dalton, who missed some races due to high school football, has a firm grip on the 13th spot.

The three drivers wish to send special thanks to Trey Robertson, Seth Kramer and Kevin Bates for keeping them aimed in the right direction with their tireless work in the pits.
