DAVIS LEADS USAC SOUTHWEST SPRINTS TO SAN TAN VALLEY

JUNE 6, 2018… The Sands Chevrolet USAC SouthWest Sprint Cars are back in action this Saturday, June 9th, at Arizona Speedway. Promoted by Jonah Trussel, the ninth point race will be the fourth of seven appearances at the fast 3/8-mile oval. The action packed card at the San Tan Valley oval will also feature IMCA Modifieds, Sport Mods, and Pure Stocks. The Front Gates will open at 5:30pm and Racing is scheduled to start at 7:30pm. NOTICE TO RACERS: FRONT AXLE TETHERS ARE MANDATORY ON JULY 1ST. The Schoenfeld 14272735-78 Muffler is MANDATORY for Sands Chevrolet USAC SouthWest competition at Arizona Speedway. Failure to comply will be disqualified from the events. . The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is the ONLY legal right rear tire and cockpit adjustable shocks are NOT allowed. The engine restrictor rules are 1-7/8” with open heads and 2-3/16” with ASCS cylinder heads. The weight rule is 1,475 lbs. with driver and the USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Rule Book can be found online at www.southwestsprintcars.com or www.usacracing.com. Since April 13, 2013, Arizona Speedway has hosted thirty-five USAC SouthWest Coast Sprint Car events. Five-time champion R.J. Johnson leads all drivers with eighteen victories and topped the March 17th and May 19th shows. On April 28th, “The Bull” Tye Mihocko earned his first career victory and the track series win list is at the bottom of this release.

“Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. (Buckeye, Arizona) heads to Arizona Speedway with a stout 86-point lead. Driving his #50 RSS Industries / MP Environmental RSS, Davis ran second to R.J. Johnson in the May 27th “Salute to Indy” finale at Canyon Speedway Park. At press time, the five-time Arizona Sprint Car Champion has three feature wins, three heat race victories, two Beaver Stripes Passing Master Awards, ten top-10 finishes, and 125 feature laps led. “Chargin” Charles has 24 series wins and will be looking to add another trophy to his collection.

“The Bull” Tye Mihocko (Peoria, Arizona) ranks second in the chase for the championship. Piloting the family owned #5 Hunt Realty by Dave Wilson / Mears Mechanical Spike, Mihocko charged from fourteenth to finish third in the “Salute to Indy.” To date, “The Bull” has posted on feature win, two heat race victories, two Beaver Stripes Passing Master Awards, one hard charger award, eight top-10 finishes, and six feature laps led on the season. Tye will have his sights on adding another Arizona Speedway win to his resume.

“The Magic Man” Mike Martin (Yuma, Arizona) is second in the USAC SouthWest point chase. Racing his #16 Naquin Precision Earth Moving / Ultimate Offroad Maxim, Martin placed sixth in the Canyon Speedway Park main event. At press time, the 2004 SCRA Rookie of the Year has two heat race victories, one Beaver Stripes Passing Master Award, one hard charger award, and seven top-10 finishes to his credit. “The Magic Man” has five series wins and will be looking to earn the $1,500 payday.

Michael Curtis (Cottonwood, Arizona) ranks fourth in the championship point standings. Driving Kevin Turner & Greg Wheeler’s #11C DAR Racing / JT Engineering Maxim, Curtis raced from sixteenth to score eighth at Canyon Speedway Park. To date, the young driver has one heat race victory, one Beaver Stripes Passing Master Award, one hard charger award, eight top-10 finishes and 4 feature laps led on the season. This Saturday, Michael will have his sights on earning his first series win at Arizona Speedway.

After finishing ninth at the “Salute to Indy,” Matt Lundy (Phoenix, Arizona) has climbed to fifth in the point standings. Piloting his #98 American Flowtech Consulting Services / Desert State Electric Triple X, Lundy has posted one heat race victory and seven top-10 finishes in the campaign. The 2017 Rookie of the Year will be looking to claim his first SouthWest win this Saturday night.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Josh Pelkey, R.J. Johnson, Dennis Gile, Chris Bonneau, Tyler Most, Zack Madrid, Kyle Shipley, Mason Keefer, Austin Kuehl, Larry Kesterson, Joe Scheopner, “The Real American” Matt Rossi, Brent Yarnal, Rick Shuman, and more.

Arizona Speedway is located at 47800 N. Ironwood Road in San Tan Valley, just five minutes from Mesa, Arizona. To get to the track, exit Ironwood Drive on US 60, then head four miles south.
