I did not watch many cup races this year but know for most of the year Kyle was up front every week , yesterday I tuned in half way through the race and saw he finished last again. Seems like ever since Knoxville when he stopped running Sprint Cars his results dropprd off maybe runnins the sprint helped and not hurt him.
I also wondered was Paul Silva the mechanic on yhe 57 when he was in Pa.? Saw somewhere that Silva was no longer working on Ricos car did he work on both or did he have someone else?

Actually, Larson just dropped off in the last few weeks. Unfortunately, two of those DNFs were engine failures including the one that eliminated him from the playoffs. Not really much he could do about that. He is competitive at pretty much every track now. If that team improves just a little bit more then they will be the ones to beat in NASCAR. Personally I will watch NASCAR even though it's not my favorite. I'm damn sure not watching NFL on Sundays any more. With the NASCAR race I generally turn them off if Larson drops out.

When did they change the name from "The Chase" to "The Playoffs"? I don't follow Nascar, but when I read about somoene not making the playoffs it made me laugh. Why can't auto racing just be unique and not try to be like the stick and ball sports. Is Nascar going to start pre-season and post-season "games" as well?

Agree Dryslick
Kyle's performance and the team's performance have been on par with the other parts of the season. Motor gremlins cost them the last two weeks. He is almost always running up front at some point in the race.
Does Hendrick supply his powerplants? HMMMMM Kinda makes one think. What better way to increase the odds of the 24 and 48 making the final 4

He won twice after the Nationals and twice before the Nationals I believe, but was pretty consistent all year. He had bad luck when in "the playoffs." If your not in the playoffs its almost like every other car out there doesnt matter according to NASCAR so I'm sure his TV time went down which makes the appearance of a drop off. As for Hendrick giving Larson bad engines??? Come on Egras :) I'm a sucker for a good conspiracy theory though so you never know. Crazier things have happened

I kinda had that thought when it happened. If that's what happened then it didn't work cause the 24 and 48 didn't make it anyway.

2 blown motors and 2 wreck related DNFs in the last 4 weeks, plus his GF is preggers again. Talk about a run of bad luck! ;)
Maybe he is getting all of the bad luck out of his system now so it won't be a factor at the Chili Bowl.

NASCAR has called it "The Chase" from it's inception until this year. Sometime over the winter when they announced the new "stage points" format they began calling it "The Playoffs".
Explained by a NASCAR exec here: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/09/nascar-cup-series-playoffs-chase-drivers-rounds-qualifying-elimination-points-breakdown-truex-jimmie-johnson-dale-earnhardt-jr-kyle-larson-busch

I believe in the JFK conspiracy and that we didn't go to the moon.
However, I actually don't think Hendrick gave him bad motors. Just pisses me off that Kyle kicked Jimmy's ass and Chase's ass all year long. Then, wham---motor issue? Then--motor issue?
Just a strange coincidence I guess.
I have no choice but to watch the Nascar playoffs. I'm a Bear's fan and it will be the only playoffs I get to watch this fall. :)
(and I agree it's stupid)

This isn't really the place to engage in a NASCAR debate, but since we don't have much open wheel stuff to criticize each other right now......
I like most parts of the chase or playoffs or whatever you want to call it. I did not like it when first implemented and to be honest I thtought this whole stage racing thing was as silly as poop on a stick. But it has ramped up the drama, excitement and entertainment ....you have to accept that even if you want to argue that it is "fake" or "manufactured" drama. But the whole thing is still fundamentally flawed in that a "once racce, winner take all" champion will be determined on Sunday. It works for other sports but not in racing IMHO. I do not know what the solution would be....maybe allow stage points earned over the first 9 race in the playoffs to carry over into Homestead? I don't know.
Let's launch a whole new conspiracy theory 5 days before the race. Kyle Busch gets the absolute best motor that TRD has in inventory right now and Martin Truex gets what left or possibly something experimental/risky. If you think that is crazy, remember the fact that KyBu couldn't win a race until JGR suspended Martin Truex's pit crew for 3 weeks
Finally, it really should not surprise anyone that Toyota enjoys a perforamce advantage right now. Look at how much $$ they have spent with NASCAR and specifically ISC in the last 3-5 years. If Brad K wants to complain about percieved disadvantages, it should be towards Ford to step up and start outbidding Toyota for pace car rights, signage, ISC track infrastructure, etc.
(yes, I am bored....how many days until the Chili Bowl again?)

You don't have to apologize about posting on Nascar, this is a forum for sprint car fans and that is what you are--even if you have---wait for it......other interests. If someone doesn't want to read about it, they are as free to skip over just as you are free to write it.
The stages did make for more excitement early on, but then it just kinda got old. The drama is manufactured. The entire system is junk. Not to say it was correct before:
-In 1996 Terry Labonte beat Gordon with 2 wins to Gordon's 10
-Kenseth won the championship with 1 win and Ryan Newman finished 6th with 8 wins. ??????
-Jimmy Johnson---well, just insert championship year here after about his 3rd or 4th.
Did they deserve to win them? Sure. That was the system at the start of the season. The system is, and has always been flawed no matter which one they use. Should be extremely heavy weight on winning and running up front. Shouldn't be points awarded for hanging out in 19th all day.
Easy fix to all of this:
10 pts. to win
8 points for 2nd
6 points for 3rd
5 pts for 4th
4
3
2
1 pt. for 8th thru 10th.
Done. Champion at the end of the year will be correct. And, if there is any doubt, it will be minor doubt. Not this crap where Chase Elliot about got into the final 4. Or where Ryan Newman almost won a few years back after doing absolutely nothing the entire year.

that is a great point here. my wife says the samething, sabatoge, I somewhat agree but hard to prove. two blown motors in that small amount of time is troubling to say the least. pretty much unheard of that close together imo...
Ascot was the greatest of all time..
West Capital wasn't half bad either..
Life is good...

Not Hendrick but Ernhardt/Chilldress engines they do in fact use.

I read a lot about how much a sprint car motor costs. What does a NASCAR motor cost?

My wife's favorite racing shirt was bought at a NASCAR race. It say's "Why is racing better than football and baseball? It's because you need 2 balls and there is no time-outs."
The shirt is still funny, evan if it isn't true anymore.
