BRODY ROA CHARGES FROM THE BACK TO SECOND IN THE MAIN AND IN USAC/CRA STANDINGS!

(Buena Park, CA, April 19, 2017) If anyone had doubts about Brody Roa’s championship aspirations, the 26-year-old racing star erased all of them last Saturday night when he came from the back to finish second in the 30-lap main event at the Bakersfield Speedway.  It was his fourth top five finish in six starts in 2017 and it propelled him from fourth to second in the USAC/CRA championship standings.

After displaying #91R and meeting fans at a local go-kart track before the race, the team was greeted by a large crowd that showed up for the series’ first race since 2005 at the 1/3-mile-high banked Kern County clay oval.  Roa, who calls Garden Grove home, did not disappoint the masses when he toured the track with a time of 12.640 in qualifying.  That was third best in the 23-car field.  He backed that up with a dominating performance in his ten-lap heat race.  Starting on the outside of the third row, he sliced and diced his way through the traffic to steal the second-place spot by the end of the first circuit.  Less than two laps later he raced into the lead and drove off into the sunset for a convincing full straightaway win.

For the main event, the talented star had a prime starting spot.  He was outside of row two in the 23-car field.  However, all the hopes and expectations took a momentary hit to the gut when the field bunched up coming off turn four and heading toward the initial green flag.  The two cars starting on the front row got together and one slid up in front of Roa leaving him nowhere to go.  Roa managed to keep his car straight and drove into the second spot, but a yellow flag brought the proceedings to a halt.

A yellow flag while running second is normally not good, but this one turned into a blessing in disguise not only for the BR Performance team, but also for the fans.  The tangle resulted in a flat tire.  On the yellow, the crew led by Brett Roa and Zac Bozanich, quickly changed the flat and sent white helmeted Brody back to do battle.

Due to the fact that he stopped to change the tire, he went from starting outside the front row to dead last.  What was about to happen was one of the most thrilling rides in the USAC/CRA Series in years and a drive that was worth the price of an admission ticket alone.

Much to the delight of the big crowd, on a tricky, slick track, Roa used the entire surface going where others feared in his chase for the top spot.  He disposed of pack cars and stars as well.  He was up to third on lap 18 and second seven laps later.  By that time, it was clear that he was the fastest car on the track.  However, it became a matter of time with only five laps remaining.  Roa kept his mind in the game and focused on the leader.  He was closing at the checkered flag and came home with a well deserved second place finish.

After the first race of the season, Roa was sixth in the USAC/CRA standings.  After two races, he was fourth.  Now after three races, he has fought his way all the way to second.  The poise under duress at Bakersfield showed that the BR Performance team is a championship contender in the series and it is bound and determined to put on another show when the series travels to the always thrilling Ventura Raceway for the next round on May 6th.

Those fans wishing to cheer on Brody Roa at Ventura can find the track located on the beach at the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Boulevard, Ventura (93001).  The track phone number is: (805) 648-RACE.  You can visit the track’s website at the following link:   http://venturaraceway.com/
