Why do sprinters lift the right front wheel at Williams Grove?  How much do you think that slows them down?

Downforce from the wing and the bar/weight setup in the car causes it to lift.

Not that much, at all really, At one point a chassis builder was visiting the track and said you can't be fast with the RF in the air, until the top 3 which were his cars all were doing it, from then on he stated the exact opposite.

Jake, in addition to what you say (I agree) do you think the sheer speed plus lack of banking on straights also comes into play?

That's good question. Probably has something go do with the shape of the track - very long straights, turns fairly tight and relatively low banking. It most likely takes a different set-up to be fast there. I think the super-sportsmen lift the RF even more than the sprints do.

All of the above plus tall, left, side panel on top wing. They used do the same thing on the backstretch of Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, MN when there was a stiff north breeze, before the big wall went up.

Not a set up expert, but I would think the more you load the RR the more apt you are to have the LF "lighter" and the flex that's built into a chassis would lend to the LF coming off the ground under power and full forward bite. And keeping in mind, with a sprint car the basic set up is to turn left. As the driver straightens the car out and maintains a straight line, he is steering away from the natural tendancy of the car to turn left. That may increase the flex factor, also. But, as I stated, I'm no expert in the matter. Thinking of it from an action/reaction point of view.

Tie down shock. Easy in.  Firm out. Keeping the LR buried.  The gigantic top wing also helps...

Bar weight, LR shock, and wing. Throw all that together with speed and you get right front hike.

The question I have for readers is; What gets the right rear back on the ground on corner entry ? because you still have the above factors getting into the corners at the grove...

Wouldn't letting the car go back to what it is set up to do, meaning turn left, then bring the car back to it's intended load balance? After all, the full intent of a sprint car set up is to power through the turns as naturally as possible with the RR being the driving force. Running the straights is contradicting the set up of the car.

My favorite sprint car photo of all time. If you had to explain to someone who has no idea what a sprint car is, what sprint car racing is about using only a photo, this is the one you show them.

You also see them do it at Lincoln so it is not just a Grove thing....It's a set up thing......it's called ther Snellbaker Lift......Smokey Snellbaker in the Loyds Pocket Rocket  perfected that set up. Alway had that wheel up and was fast. other then tried to copy it finding it works.
