DESPITE DEALING WITH MOTHER NATURE, BRODY ROA READY FOR SPRINT CAR SEASON OPENER!

(Buena Park, CA, February 26, 2017) Despite a vicious blow struck by Mother Nature last week, rising west coast sprint car star Brody Roa is poised and ready to open the 2017 season at the “Sokola Shootout” for the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at Perris Auto Speedway, this Saturday night, March 4th.

Roa, 25, of Garden Grove California, is coming off an impressive 2106 season that saw him win the USAC West Coast Series championship and finish third in the USAC/CRA title chase. Preparations for another successful run in the USAC/CRA series were close to being done when last week’s viscous storms in Southern California threw a Major-League curve ball at the BR Performance team. Heavy winds ripped the roof off the team’s Long Beach race shop and substantial rains took advantage of the open opportunity flooding the building and saturating everything inside.

“A big gust of wind blew the roof off of the shop,” the affable racer said. “The shop got flooded and everything was soaked. I am glad we had all of the engines plugged, but all of the electronics got soaked. We pretty much had everything ready for the season and had some spare time so we had just hung new drywall in the shop. I am sure that is probably ruined as well.”

To complicate matters, Roa had been away in Tulsa, Oklahoma for work for a couple of weeks and crewman Zac Bozanich was away at school until this past weekend. That left the championship contending driver’s father Brett to tend to cleaning up the mess inside of the shop. Fortunately, a new roof was being installed late last week and the team expected to have everything back to normal by the end of the weekend. Despite the weather induced problems, the car and team will be 100% for Saturday’s race at Perris.

Roa closed 2016 against the toughest field of cars in the nation featuring the USAC National and CRA Sprint Cars at the 22nd Annual Oval Nationals at Perris. The lanky driver impressed everyone with a fourth-place finish at the finale. Prior to that race, one of the team’s bright green cars was destroyed in a grinding crash in Arizona. Thus, a brand-new car was built and will roll out at the season opener on Saturday.

Despite winning the West Coast title, finishing third in USAC/CRA points and taking fourth at the Oval Nationals, Roa believes the team left a few cards on the table.

“We led the point standings (USAC/CRA) for a lot of the year and we were running up front,” he said. “We were running great, but things fell apart in September. We need to have a better second half this year than we did in 2016. If we can run all year like we did in the first half of 2016, we will be all right.”

Roa’s run to third place in the USAC/CRA championship standings was highlighted by six top three finishes, 11 top fives and 15 top 10’s in 24 races.

In addition to contesting the full 2017 USAC/CRA Series schedule, Roa and the crew plan to compete at Indiana Sprint Week in July and select USAC West Coast events throughout the season. Thanks to Frank Baldozier Racing and Steve Watt, his next racing appearance after the Perris lid lifter will be on March 9th and 10th at the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series openers at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Saturday’s race at Perris will see spectator gates open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00. Perris Auto Speedway is located in the city of Perris on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at: 18700 Lake Perris Drive, 92571.

The BR Performance team would like to thank the following sponsors for making the 2017 season possible: HD Industries, Burris Racing, “Biker” Bruce Fisher, Caring4Vets.com, Frank Baldozier Racing, Lee and Norma Leonard, Hot Paint Restorations, Driven Racing Oil, Baldwin Filter, Okie Race Cars and Crow Enterprises.
