LATE PASS FOR BANDIT POINT LEADER OLSEN'S WIN by Gary Jacob
Hanford, CA -May 22, 1999--Brenden Olsen from Fresno, the point leader for the traveling Bandit unwinged 360 sprint cars, used a lap 23 pass around Gene Manhire to score a $700 win in their 25 lap main event Saturday night at Kings Speedway.
The Bandit turnout was 16 cars and previous week Tulare winner Jerome Warmerdam posted fast time honors with his 16.003 lap as Jarrett Chaney ran a 16.094 lap and Olsen was third at 16.247. Both A J Burgin and Mike Downing broke in hot laps, but Burgin borrowed Jim Phelans car for the racing action. Problems in the heat race action sidelined Josh Davis and Warren Dorathy from the main event. 1998 champion Danny Sheridan returned to Bandit action after missing the two previous races to run the season opening races at his home track in Santa Maria. He and Chaney won heat races. Davey Pombo Jr returned to Kings action and led early. On lap 13, Dave Knott spun for a yellow flag. Manhire was leading Sheridan and Olsen, but Olsen made a late charge around both and took the lead on lap 23 for his 25 lap win. Warmerdam was second ahead of Manhire, Sheridan, Pombo, Chaney, Matt Day and Burgin.
