Wow, I am finally able to access this thread. LOL Great to read a thread with so many top notch posts.
To answer OKC's question from earlier in the thread, two separate stints for Keith Kauffman in the Weikert car.
I know the Motter No. 71M was mentioned earlier. Didn't that team start out as Knoxville regulars with Randy Smith or was the team around before Randy started driving for them?

Actually, MSPN, Sammy will be driving our #64 here in Chico for Gold Cup next week. We are very excited about it! His seat arrived here today and he will get in next Tuesday. We have Sammy T-Shirts for this race, it may be the last Sammy shirt ever!!!!
We'll miss you at Gold Cup, it's been entirely too long since we have seen you!!

Harold Annette (TMC) had one of the best operations out there with Sammy, I think he rode along with Hesmer on a limited basis also.
Mike Brooks also had a very nice car in the field.

Terry Brown, Andy Hillenburg come to mind.

SRC was a pretty excellent car owner himself. Starting out as a sponsor for a top notch local team in OKC, and then moving on putting top notch teams together for ASCS and National Sprint Car and World of Outlaw Series teams as a car owner.

I think the car owners I miss the most over the years.... Fred Marks and Les Kepler, who along with Mr. Hunt were responsible for my first Nationals in 86; Two of the nicest and most fun guys ever, Tom Wimmer and Bob Kramer- Love you guys!; Had a lot of fun with Jack and Carol Elden in the Pennzoil days; Who didn't love Dave Helm? And of course the coolest car owners EVER- Craig and Linda Cormack,( but I still get to see them occasionally, so no worries there.)

Hey to Sandy and Rod, this will be two missed Gold Cups in a row after a decade of them, I hate it! There might not be a better place on the planet to be in September than Northern California. The weather is ALWAYS great, the people are some of the most friendly and pleasant I ever encountered, the parties are top notch and the racing is second to none. You can't beat a well prepared bull ring that just might get a little rough and tackier as the night wears on! John and Robbie take care of their drivers, their fans and the media almost on a personal basis, they are the best! To those that are complaining or disappointed with the Nationals I highly recommend the Gold Cup. You will not regret or forget it, guaranteed! Take It Easy.....
PS A thread with enlightening thoughts and opinions, almost a flashback to the early days in this forum, well done.....

The Motter brothers came to Knoxville with a guy by the name of Jimmy Evans that litterally drove over Aaron Berryhill's tail tank right up and over the turn three fence going out of the park between the scoreboard and the turn three billboards. When the rescue crew got there his helmet had rolled over his eyes and they ask him if he knew where he was at and he replied on the racetrack at Knoxville, after taking his helmet off he said where am I at? ;)

Jay-Wad and Butch....
I loved working for Jay! Butch (Ray) was a little too quiet, or maybe he just had little tolerance for drunken fools???
The nightly Silver Bullet run...Jay always bought, dolled out more than a single Ben Franklin, and as long as the beer held out for the night, he never asked for his change.
To this day I have no idea if he ever caught on.
The never ending (seemingly) stream of drivers from Nick Rescino, Sr. to Scott Luhdorff, Chuck Miller, Brent Kaeding, Tommy Estes, Lee Brewer, Doug Wolfgang, Mark Kinser...
I'll never forget the night I stuffed Jimmy into the side of their mom's car (racing three wheelers at the shop) the same night it came back from Flyer's Body Shop....same door! We didn't know whether to shit or go blind.
I was in San Jose a couple of years back and ran into Jay and it was like I never left!

The best thing you can do under those circumstances is to close one eye and fart.

I have read this all.... I think... and I can't believe I never saw the names of Lavern Nance or John Lawson (okay --- Lawson was into midgets... but you've got to admit that his midgets not being at the Chili Bowl are a great loss). Nance had so many drivers that it would be a long list to remember them all.
Rick Ferkel had some neat car owners too... but it's late and I can't think. The builder from Arizona...??, Tognotti... the enthusiast from Florida. Sorry I can't pull these names out of the hat right now. I know you all know the Arizona man.

One of Ferkels owners was Morgan (Paul I think is the first name) Dang can't think, gettin' late, er I mean early.
Thought of a couple more: Lee Osborne; was Gary Stanton mentioned?; what about the Genesee beer wagons? ;And who owned the 4J that kenny jacobs drove years ago? It was a burgundy car with flourescent orange numbers on it.
Sammy's ride in Raymond Beadles Old Milwaukee car was a pretty ride.
I remember a Baily sponsored car that Jimmy Sills drove for awhile, and a orange #55 Jensen Const. car. I bekieve these were west coast based cars.
Great thread, keep 'em commin'.
Bringin' back alot of memories and I don't even have to dig out the old open wheel mags.

Not that it is an award winning team but The Jordans have owned the 1 car for a long time. Most of their Knoxville wins might come from Dogging the twin feature night but a win is a win and a Win is a win at Knoxville. Antill has been racing that car for a long time coming.

The orange 55 was based in Knoxville. The car was driven by Skip Jackson and other drivers including Terry McCarl. The car still runs in Knoxville by new owner Tony Vermeer. Billy Alley is the current driver and the car is now black.
