It's a waste of time, John. Some people are so blinded by their own self-absorption, they can't see beyond the end of their nose.

Fortunately, you certainly seem to understand that, while it's not an optimal situation, some elements of the business world are run this way. Every day in the news we hear about huge corporations that are, or were, in "trouble" (GM, Ford, Kmart, etc) but yet they somehow continue operations even as "bleak" as their future is made out to be by some. Chrysler was just bought out last month by a private investment conglomerate (sound familiar?), even though their financial outlook hasn't been good at all over the last few years, and yet somehow they continue to build and sell cars, advertise, and go about everyday normal operations. But yet when the WoO continues their operations in a similar manner, it's somehow doom and gloom and the sprint car world will surely come crashing down on itself.

Personally, I don't get what or why it all matters so much to certain people.

So you guys are worried because Boundless Outlaw Dirt World has to come up with $1.5 million by June 30th? ...Seems to me that's the least they've ever needed...lol. Drop in the bucket. For going on three years now you guys seem to be experts at "jumping the gun"...lol.

Hawker

If the series is in operation, paying its bills, sanctioning events and there are tracks making money with those events and scheduling them on an ongoing basis, why are you so concerned about whether they turn a profit in the next six quarters?

This has all been discussed on my show and elsewhere over the past couple of years. The sport will continue to move ahead in the future and the World of Outlaws will continue to be an important part of the process. That is what is truly important.

Me concerned? Hardly...But I do keep up with several stocks that I own and I also keep an eye out on what is looking like a disaster.

Just because the "talking heads" on your show say that DIRT is going to survive and be a part in the future of sprint car racing, doesn't make it so. BTW, I quit listening to your show over a year ago because I got tired of all of the "back patting" and softball questions.

LOL @ trying to compare DIRT to GM, Ford and Kmart....

GM at least has a POSITIVE CASH FLOW, to the point of nearly $400,000,000,000 and still show a gross profit, even during these lean years. DIRT on the other hand has a cash flow of -$10,000,000.

I was wondering when the brilliant financial analysts would grace us with their analysis again. Not to say DIRT doesn't have major issues and one of these days you might be right about them going under. But even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Lets face it, CASH is KING and they have very little of it on the balance sheet and they have negative cash flow for working capital. How they keep paying the bills is starting to make me wonder, but they keep getting cash through sale of stock, which eventually will become worthless because it will be so diluted.

So, if you want to change this situation you need to make a profit. They cant even break even let alone make one. If they cant make a profit what will they do? Can they increase the sanctioing fees? This then pushes the burden down to the promoter and then eventually the fan. If the promoter isnt making money they arent going to sanction this show. They better be finding sponsorship money fast. They have already lost $2.2M in the Q1-07. This annualized is $8.8M, which is better than 2006. . This train is on a collision course for bankruptcy.

I dont know what their Moody's rating is,but it cant be good and people will begin to quit lending cash to them. Their balance sheet is such a mess that NO ONE would want to buy them.

Hawker or anybody else for that matter that thinks DIRT is the death knoll for sprint car racing - What is your suggestion to maintain a business that will also allow its employees to make a comfortable living without costing the teams, tracks and fans more at the gate?

John - Maybe you can get Hawker and a few other "concerned" folks to come on your show, voice their concerns and offer solutions to problems they feel exist. You could follow it the next week with a rebuttal show from Dirt.

I just don't understand either why it is such a concern. Every time a financial report comes out someone parades it around like a cheerleader hoping for a score. It is almost as if these same people want to see the death of National Sanctioned sprint car racing just so they can say "I told you so"

amazing that people can walk up to a trainwreck and call it something else...if i had a radio show, i might be more like Tony Stewart (ouch!) and tell the real story.

i remember the posts of zealots that "THE TV DEAL WILL SAVE THE DAY"...before that "THE KING AND DUDE ARE BACK"...before that "DONNY SCHATZ IS THE NEW KING"...before that THE KING DOESN'T MATTER...before that "fill in the blank suckers"...and every step along the way resulted in another 5-8 mil in additional "operating shortfalls". incidentally not one of these zealous posts bothered to question the operating costs vs. the value they represent.

3 more days to file the next round of numbers...no one will bet on a positive number for as far as the eye can see!

carry on fools...

Everyone seems to have made out pretty darn good from this deal so far...Boundless Outlaw Dirt World management have gotten paid, the race teams have a record purse and point fund, even the Grove got the National Open up to $50k plus some tv coverage again... Who exactly are the fools again...lol?

Unless one of these naysayers is someone who is a viable newsmaker in the sport, why would I want to give them valuable airtime that can better go to someone whose opinion really matters. Again, I simply ask this...If DIRT Motorsports is in eminent danger of failure, why are there so many tracks wanting WoO dates? Why are there 26 teams on the sprint car tour? Why do the industry leaders partake in a summit facilitated by Tom Deery and Ben Geisler, among others, to cultivate a positive future for the sport?

This isn't about just DIRT Motorsports and its future. This is about the future of dirt tracks across America. This is about the future of raceteams who tour in DIRT's various series. This is about sponsorship involvement now and in the future. This is about race fans around the country being able to get value for their money. If you want to see DIRT fail, you are also wanting everyone involved with them to fail.

Hey, this doesn't mean you have to be in favor of everything they do. I'm not. There were some tough questions for Ben Geisler last night. That said, I really think Tom Deery and Ben and the rest of their organization are making progress to make the sport better. They are leaders, and I respect that. If that's being a cheerleader, so be it. Personally, I think the sport is in better condition now than anytime over the last seven or so years.

You know Pat, I know you care about sprint car racing. I know you have knowledge of the sport. I don't know why you shut yourself off from opinions that aren't in line with yours. You may learn something. I talk to people every day that don't agree with me on some topics. It helps me learn, too, by reinforcing what I think and how to communicate a response and sometimes, I may even change my opinion on an issue. One thing I DO know...DIRT Motorsports is a very important player in the sport we love and to needlessly ridicule that organization is detrimental to the overall sport. It's fine to disagree with them, and sometimes, you may be right. But let's at least have civil discourse on how to make things the best they can be.

BRR and Hawker, ect.,

OK, let's say there is no more DIRT Motorsports. I would like to know SPECIFICALLY what you would do to lead the sport. What would you do differently than what is being done now? How are you going to work with tracks, raceteams and sponsors? What will you do to spark the interest of current and potential fans? I don't want to hear what DIRT isn't doing right, I want to hear what you WILL do. Here's your chance to convince the world of sprint car racing, so have at it.

I'll agree it will be a huge mess if it goes under, but it's a little late to be worrying about it now. Ted Johnson rest his soul made a choice between Paul Kruger and Barry Graham in 2003 and here we are. Schatz made great money last year, there are 25 teams on the road, and we're on TV Sundays before NASCAR. Things could be a lot worse. Make hay while the sun still shines.

DIRT only leads motorsports in one category (operational shortfalls)...the tracks i support regularly have their finances in order. local tracks need only to promote events, prepare the surface, and avoid screwing around all night. young people have plenty of other options that are more exciting than a poorly run show on a crappy surface.

this may not be newsworthy information for an organization who wants to be NASCRAP...or a webcaster, but it actually WORKS BETTER than spending $60 mil more money than you take in.

case in point, speedweek starts Sat night...the local promoters will compare the crowds to the May swing (worse than last year - split field). in spite of all the hype of the reformation...fans have not flocked back in this area. lincoln has packed stands every saturday night...and has not bothered with high $ sanctioning bodies for years.

top down solutions in openwheel are failing across the board...CART / IRL / Silver Crown Bulldozers / WoO are all in the same boat. you can blame the people who recognize it...or the people asleep at the wheel...take your pick!
